What do we want in the next Tribe of Judah web site?

When checking these out, opensourceCMS offers free trials.

Being a one time web master of ToJ and knowing the needs pretty well, I know I could accomplish a conversion of a large portion of the existing site in DotNetNuke along with supporting sub sites and sub site administrators. The problem is the reliance on asp.net and SQL Server which means slightly higher hosting costs and/or lock in to Windows.

Joomla is not bad but it is a lot more complex to use then it needs to be in comparison to DotNetNukes drag and drop page editing and quick page edit control.

I'll check Drupal out and give an opinion.

Also, I had put up a demo site for Tek to look at of DotNetNuke. I spent an hour getting some content in place just to give an idea. I was going to work on skinning it just to see how hard it would be but there wasn't a lot of interest so I let it drop:

My host is the same host as ToJ except I have 1 SQL Server database in my plan.

One of the issues of using an 'cookie cutter' CMS is that they are geared toward content and not social interaction. Done properly the site could sport events where people could acknowledge that they will be coming, automatically email people in the groups of new events, etc. The problem IMO is that no matter which approach, there is still going to be a lot of custom coding (unless you just want a boring information portal).

Using the site as an information portal (including calendars) and using the forums for social interaction will probably suit our needs better.

Still, I'm hoping that the next site will include as much if not more real-time information as our current site. I don't know if anyone watches the real-time server banners on the current Tribe of Judah site, but I'd like to think they come in handy for someone.
