Pheonix28

Slave to Christ.
I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.
...
What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?
1 Corinthians 1:10; 12–13

Even in the early church there was division. You had the followers of Paul, Peter, Apollos, etc. Now we've got divisions such as Calvinist, Arminian, Lutheran, etc. Maybe it's more specific to denominations; Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Presbyterian, etc.

Paul is calling for unity in the early church, we also, should be calling for unity in the modern church. Do we "know better" than the early church that we should be following certain people over following Christ? As Paul says "Or were you baptized in the name of <insert here>"?
