We are a "free migration" server

Perhaps this was common knowledge, and I am just out of the loop, but I just took a peek at Blizzard's list of servers for free transfers (hoping to see we could be transfered off from for free so our queues would start to drop). I was surprised to see that we are actually a destination for free transfers. Wow I would have thought that 400-600 person queues would be an indicator that we are overly full. /sigh

Also interesting, but not really proof of anything (because this statistic doesn't reflect actual use, just a raw headcount) is that Warcraftrealms has us listed as one of the most populated servers:

Census

Horde vs Alliance usage ratio

Perhaps we are only open for horde character transfers?

You are just seeing it backwards sir:) The new(destination) realm is listed at the top of the realms that can transfer for free to it. So, in the case of Terenas, (and Perenolde, Whisperwind, Azjol-Nerub, and Thunderhorn)
we can transfer for free to the 'newly opened' realm of Zangarmarsh, which is a PvE server, like the ones listed, and is in Mountain time.

We've just opened brand new free character moves for the following realms and plan to open additional free moves tonight, Jaunary 16, at approximately 10:00 PM PST. The destination realms are newly opened with character creation disabled during the period of free character moves. These transfers will run until 3:00 AM PST, Friday, January 23 or until such a time that the destination realms have received adequate transfers to them.

As stated above, below are the realms slated to receive free character moves tonight, Jaunary 12 at 10:00 PM PST.

Destination: - Zangarmarsh, PvE - Mountain

Perenolde
Whisperwind
Azjol-Nerub
Thunderhorn
Terenas

You had me worried there for a minute that Blizzard had lost its mind:)

As for the login queues, please don't fret. I heard a lot of discussion last night and people being really upset. I do understand that you pay for service and want in, just like everyone else. But please trust me when I say that I've seen this pattern before. Anytime there is new content, the queues pop back up for a few weeks (at most) before everything returns to normal.

The queues over the last 2 weeks is just people reactivating their account and farming for runecloth and jewelcrafting materials.

Everything will return to normal soon enough. Just login early and relax while you wait to get in. Read a book, watch something funny on TV, spend time with the family, eat at the dinner table for once, etc.

and above all, smile as you remember that it's just a game.

The thing is, if they don't have queues, when you log into the game it is unplayable cause of the lag that too many folks on one server cause. I would rather have a queue and be able to play when I log in.

They are also taking steps to decrease our server population by offering free transfers off. I posted a topic on realm splits too that they are thinking about. So, it is not like they are not doing anything.

We can't help it that Terenas is so popular:) Folks just lub us:)

The long que is the main reason why I didn't bother to play last night. I was on for only a few minutes late at night, just to get into Outlands. A 600+ que is just not worth it. So, I was playing my Blood Elf instead.

I was trying to log on at around 11:00pm last night, and hit a 530+ spot queues with a wait of around 30 minutes also the longest wait i've seen thus far. It's definitely something i can accept, since I was able to chat with my friends who were visiting and had fun anyway.

Well, the thing is, even though we did just get a new release, evening queues have been 200+ for the last few weeks. If its a free xfer for all of our characters, I wouldn't be opposed to moving, less competition, less lag, no queues, might be a refreshing thing..

I go where the guild goes though..

the big spike in players is one of the reasons im quite content to sit back and wait a bit before buying TBC (as well as waiting for my new computer)... i didnt play wow at all last night, but instead hung out with friends in person ;)

Yep, I read that wrong... and glad I did. Whew! As for me they don't bother me too much, I just tend to sign up just before I go and tuck the kids in. It takes about 30 minutes to tuck in my two oldest kids, and that tends to be the same amount of time it takes to work through the queue... give and take about 5/10 minutes. :P

I agree though, it will likely be this way for about a week or so.
