Ways to make the Guild Better!!

Tribe of Judah Aion Chapter Leader
Ok it has come to my attention that folks need assistance with various things and they are getting ignored. This needs to be fixed. I know know most of the guild are willing helpers but some how we keep missing people who actually need the help. We need to make more than one night in my opinion to help others out. And the current low lvl night is dead so my Idea is have 2 or 3 days where no matter what lvl you are we help out a guild member that is stuck on a mission/bonus. I know as we get to higher lvl most lvl 20's feel Bonus is waste of time but to some players it is just as important as doing the mission and we need to help our brothers and sisters in Christ. One way if you hate doing a mission getting a group of Guild Members on teamspeak makes it so much fun. Example I do not think IDS runs are very fun but with a group of Guild members it is a Blast!! If you guys have ideas plz post.

We should encourage members to participate on the forum. It is the only way that we can efficiently organize. If you see someone in the game that you don't recognize as a member who posts here, whisper to them and encourage it. Some might not even know that we use the forum to organize. Maybe make it a requirement that you must introduce yourself and post your character name on the forum before you will get a guild invite.

When the website gets redone, maybe we can add some code to it that will show and give a link to the latest forum topics.

Yes, the forum is the only effective way of gathering a group together.

Often, when I get on, if there's not something specific about to start, I'll get involved in the missions and quests that I have to do, and then I am unavailable to help others until later. But if I know something specific is going to occur, then I'll plan on it, and do farming (or something similar) until the appointed time.

Got a idea I like the idea of the introduction now if we can get a forum admin to start a new sticky. I think it would be awesome to start a new introduction thread no replying to it at all. If you post out of the context it gets deleted. And everyone repost and introduced themselves new and old members. And if some needs help set a time when you will be doing what you need done in the forum, and I know people will show up to help. Try not to post too many things on the same day.

Along these lines of "organizing"... is there a way that we can map "character names" to "forum names"? Ex. I grouped with Lucy of Narnia (That's you Dredd) and Owen the Restless last night (thanks [non-gender specific noun signifying commradery]!) but I have no idea who these characters are in the forums/real life. So many aliases.

Ideas?

I think a "Stinky" introduction thread is a great idea. And have everyone, old and new, make a simple introduction, including all your toon names (nothing else). Then if there are any questions about who is who people can look there. You might also state in your introduction any specialities, like "runner", "Farmer", etc.

just have them state it in their sigs also, much like many are doing. I can tell sometimes with that; especially if there is some similarities among their names. like most of Draken's have Ibrahim in their name, except the one with his actual name, all mine end with Perellon, all of Dredd's have.... well, dredd in them.

and yes, a theme song would help.

I remember some of it...

"Spirit of Elijah, God's Guild Wars clan
Silver got it started and Pastori is da man
Sydney is teh awesome, but Lana is a nerd
lets go pwn some n00bs or some Avicara birds!"

MAN! We need to hire TobyMac or something!

The only problem with this is there are limits to what can be in the sigs....

o...m...gosh... *tear* That's so beautiful. We can have John Williams back it up with the London Symphony Orchestra and load a mod to have it play at the guild hall and within a certain proximity of any guild memeber.

Erm, yes. I am thinking something more along the lines of a song called "Ill-M-I" by TobyMac, it goes to the same tune if you don't know don't ask...

SOE, SOE, SOE, SOE and YOU
SoE is comin' through
(repeat)
Flow like the (Guild Wars river, haven't thought of one yet)
Swing like a trebuchet
One day, we'a make the whole world pay
With k.o.s and ok we bash lots and get cash
you got that right, I'm'a rock the guild hall tonight!
Transmappin', throwing snow and paparrazi like zits
get flipped out, squeezed fresh, like juicy sun kissed
and if we miss with our spikers, your still gonna sizzle
cuz MDM'll make fizzle fry nuker still worldwide!

(MDM is Mad Dogg Matt :p)

hahaha. you have waay too much time on your hands.

and I guess I do too, since I actually went through the song with your lyrics. funny.

except the beginning should be:
SOE, SOE, SOE, SOE and you
Spirit O' 'Lijah com'n through

I do have an idea. We could create an actual thread here specifically for posting the current in-game status for our characters, including quests/missions/goals/items, etc. And then whenever this information needs to be updated, we can update simply by editing our posts rather than making a new post. It might be a bit of a pain to get all that info listed for all characters - but even if everyone lists just his/her most active character, and even if every list isn't entirely complete, I think it would still really help us all coordinate and organize stuff like GvG.

Here's the kind of format I'd suggest for this thread:

LAST UPDATED:

PLAYER INFORMATION

PLAYER NAME/LOCATION/TIME ZONE:
TYPICAL PLAYING SCHEDULE:
ITEMS AVAILABLE FOR SALE/TRADE:
ITEMS AVAILABLE FOR DONATION:
ITEMS WANTED:

CHARACTER INFORMATION

CHARACTER NAME AND PRIMARY/SECONDARY PROF:
CURRENT BUILD/SKILLS:
CURRENT OPEN QUESTS:
CURRENT MISSION GOALS:
CURRENT LOCATION GOALS:
CURRENT ITEMS:
ITEM GOALS:

This is just my suggestion for a possible listing format. Can you tell that I'm a librarian? :) Anyway, let me know what you folks think of this idea and I'll be glad to get the thread started, or someone else can do it.

The outposts are alive, with the sound of music!

Those lyrics are VERY creative. I'd be hesitant to ask John Williams to score them as Chadly suggested, though. If Mr. Williams reads those lyrics he might be compelled to join our guild and spend hours a day playing instead of writing music.

That might work. Also in addition to that when someone needs help on anything they should post a thread like this:

Fort Ranik mission help 9pm Eastern

This will let guild members know that you need help and what time to be on to help withought even having to open the thread.

Goose is correct about not being able to edit your posts after a certain amount of time. The only way this would work would be for a forum moderator to make the additions and changes for you. Which of course could prove to be a pain for that moderator. It could be less painful if we would copy our post, paste it into a PM to the moderator, make the changes ourselves and then submit it. That way, all the moderator would have to do would be to copy and paste your changed post over the old one.

I would volunteer to do this since I'm on the forum several times each day. It would just have to be approved by a guild leader and then Sir Thom or someone would need to give me moderator privileges in this board. Unless, of course, someone who already is a moderator (WildBill, Kidan, or Ewoksrule) wants to do this.

I think it's a good idea. What say you Bill?

Thank you all for your suggestions up to this point, and please keep them coming! Constructive feedback like this is the best way to communicate something that needs improvement. If you have a specific concern or suggestion, please feel free to PM (on the forum) or whisper (in game) one of the officers as well.

I think everyone is in agreement that a new introductions thread would be appropriate. I also think it would be appropriate for the Guild Leader to start this thread followed by the other officers so that newcomers can easily find contact information as well as in game names for the leadership quickly. [toj.cc]WildBillKickoff, one2dredd and I will meet very soon and set this up. At a minimum this thread will suggest player information and character names. We will likely need to re-start this thread every few months too, so that it remains up-to-date and includes active members.

As for current mission/quest information, unfortunately, Goose is right (as astrod00d confirmed), there is a time limit on edits. Your signature (look at mine below) is probably our best bet for keeping this type of info up to date. The moderator edits could work, and I appreciate the offer and we will discuss it, but I am not sure things would be updated as often or as quickly if we had to send the info to someone. I'd also hate for visiting the forums to begin feeling like work for anyone and would likely not update my info as often as I do my signature.

As for the theme song, despite the wonderful resume of Mr. Williams, I think the more appropriate composer for our theme music would be Jeremy Soule :D .

SoE Member Info Thread

Perhaps the thread could just be re-started monthly? So we'd have a "Member Status" thread for January, and then a new one for Feb, etc. People could just copy and paste into the new post, making any relevant changes in the process. The previous months would still stay around, for the sake of folks who might be away from the group for a while and for general reference. Ok, now you can really tell I'm a librarian. :) Of course, threads could still be edited in-between the monthy re-posts, to allow those who are inclined to keep everyone up-to-date on their most current status.

I do agree that it could be a pain for everyone if we had to send updates to a moderator and have it reposted, so if the above doesn't work I hope we can find some other way. Perhaps the sigs could just be expanded - but it seems to me that players with multiple characters (and some with multiple accounts) could end up with some really, really long sigs! :) It also would mean more stuff to wade through in all the other posts on this forum where sigs have been included.
