topic name should be warrior theat.. anyways was in discussion about this last night... maximum threat generation.

Threat per sec: shield slam > revenge > devastate 5 > improved sunder = sunder > devastate 0
Threat per rage: revenge > shield slam > devastate 5 > improved sunder > sunder > devastate 0
Rage dump: heroic strike

and

Revenge - 850 average threat (2 rage/850 threat = 425 threat per 1 rage)
Shield Slam - 850 average threat (17 rage/850 = 50 threat per 1 rage)
Devastate - 500 average threat (12 rage/500=41.7 threat per 1 rage)
Heroic Strike 480 average threat (9 rage/480=53.3 threat per 1 rage)
Sunder - 440 average threat (9 rage/440=48.9 threat per 1 rage)

although this does not take into account that shield block always has to be up (and costs rage).

so in essence:
*edit* yea mike gives a great summary of what to do for max theat below..

I dono, let me know if im off here.

According to this guide on tankspot these are the threat numbers at level 70:

Shield Slam _________________________ 307
Revenge _____________________________ 200
Devastate ___________________________ 101
Sunder Armor ________________________ 301
Heroic Strike _______________________ 196
Cleave ______________________________ 130 (Split)
Mocking Blow ________________________ 290
Demoralizing Shout __________________ 56 (Split)
Battleshout _________________________ 69 (Split)
Commanding Shout ____________________ 68 (Split)
Disarm_______________________________ 104
Hamstring ___________________________ 181
Whirlwind ____________________ 100% Damage (Unaffected by Stance Multiplier)
Execute ______________________ 100% Damage (Unaffected by Stance Multiplier)
Thunderclap __________________ 175% Damage
Spell Reflect ________________ 100% Damage

I have seen these numbers mentioned in other guides as well... not sure which is right, but just thought I would toss that out there.

Another guide I have in pdf format has the same numbers but mentions that damaging attacks also get the damage done added to the threat of coarse.

In defensive stance you still have to take into account the threat multipliers.

Also Shield Slam threat works like this:
(BD + (SBV *1.3)) * 1.1

Where BD is Base Damage and SBV is Shield Block Value.
1.3 Represents Shield Mastery 30% Damage Increase
1.1 Represents One-Handed Specialization 10% Damage Increase

Shield Slam is your highest TPS (Threat per Second), Revenge offers the highest TPR (Threat per Rage).

Shield slam initially is considered a great opener.

Revenge should almost always be used when lit.

Shield slam is not always desirable on low rage fights.

From what I have read devastate is only better than sunder armor if your devastate is doing over 200 dmg (non-crit). Though it is important to keep in mind that sunder armor never crits, and therefore always does the same amount of threat.

"Shield slam is not always desirable on low rage fights."

yea thats the key, if you burn a blood rage, then you can open with shield slam, however, I need to open with thunderclap because there are always multiple incoming mobs.

(and most groups are not precision enough to just pull and expect all mobs to stick. also the debuff slows incoming attacks by 20%).

The problem with shield slam is its 17 rage, whereas the time between 0-17 rage, im just sitting there waiting for it and NO threat is being applied.

whereas if I was using sunders, I could get one on at 9 rage.. I dono how other tanks handle this, just sitting there doing nothing for 17 rage at the start of a fight does not seem like a good idea.

"From what I have read devastate is only better than sunder armor if your devastate is doing over 200 dmg (non-crit)."

didnt know this here is the details:

"... the tooltip isn't totally correct.
Because it does not do additional threat for each application of sunder.
It does however do additional bonus dmg for each application of sunder armor.

It also creates a flat 101 amount of threat.

So the threat comes from the innate thread + the dmg thread.
Since sunder Armor does 301 thread flat you need to make 200 dmg to do the same thread over time as sunder Armor. Also keep in mind that devestate can crit as well.
If you skilled your SA down to 9 rage you need to make around 300 dmg to outperform SA in rage efficency.

Also keep in mind, that this is not an ultimate one button tank solution.
Shield slam and revenge still has top priority in your skill rotation.
It replaces only SA once it is applied 5 times."
