It's not illegal if they put a warning on the affected discs. They didn't do that at first, but they do it now.

Legal and ethical have two different definitions. There are some atrocious acts that used to be legal (and some that still are), but that doesn't make them ethical.

I think the new Switchfoot CD was infected with the Sony DRM for a while.

I think the main reason they put DRM on most of these CDs is to keep people from buying crappy music.
