WarCraft movie

Bowser

Tribe of Judah StarCraft Series Chapter Leader
I'm surprised no one has talked about this yet, but at SDCC there was a mood piece for the Warcraft movie, similar to what TRON did in 2009.

The mood piece was completely random; no one expected it, but apparently everyone loved it.

There's already a lot of information out about the Warcraft movie; it has a partial crew including director, producer, VFX supervisor, although no known cast yet. Its story is supposed to take place prior to WoW, which I think is awesome.

Duncan Jones, the director, and the folks at Blizzard occasionally tweet about the movie or at least hint about it; Duncan apparently has visited Blizzard a few times to discuss the movie, and he'll mention something about working on the movie. Nothing specific, but he'll just say something like "we're working hard on the script".

I'm very excited.

Tentatively excited, as I am with all talk of film adaptations of video games (and vice versa).

One more reason to get back to Reign of Chaos for me, I suppose.

I refuse to to get excited about it until I can see- screw it. My reaction when I first heard the news that a teaser was shown was 'AAAIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' And the internal hype machine rocketed over 9000. To say I'm excited about the fact that the Warcraft universe is getting a movie is an understatement.

I know man. I am such a huge Warcraft story buff. I'm not as strong in it as I was, but man I would read anything and everything I could get my hands on regarding the story. I loved all that stuff so much, and overall I thought it was very well done and very interesting.

The Blizzard guys and Legendary have been adamant about making sure this movie is a success; as far as I know this is the first time (I could be wrong) that the studios have been that vocal and determined to make sure the movie is a hit.
Hopefully it's not a hit in the Hollywood sense; I can't stand all those severe camera angles and poor special effects (either poor quality or poor implementation :) ). Even LoTR I think falls in that category somewhat, sadly.

The lore was really the only part of playing WoW I particularly enjoyed (other than Poke-WoW). I actually have the first book of the Sunwell Trilogy. :D I am hopeful for a good transition because I do like the setting too.

I'm just hesitant because that's how I roll with these things. :P

While there are a lot of Warcraft buffs out there that are sure to love (or hate... for various reasons) this movie, I think it's coming out far too late compared to the MMO most people will link it to. If this movie had come out five or six years ago I would feel fine about it, but WoW is almost 10 years old now and I fear that most movie goers won't see the movie as a separate entity from the MMO.

Will all of this have an effect on the movie? I don't know. But I do know there are more people who are not Warcraft buffs than those who are. I'm pretty doubtful.
