Vista... ya i know...

talking about servers is 100x more interesting then vista will ever be.

I need to reduce more junk from this new VPS I am setting up. It takes up 60MB of ram on boot, lol. I hate how fedora installs anything and everything under the sun by default...

Code:
[root@zyria ~]# free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 269172 57684 211488 0 4660 22036
-/+ buffers/cache: 30988 238184
Swap: 524280 0 524280

And I assure you that 256mb of ram is much more then I will ever need.

ya, lighttp, mysql and dnsmasq. I'm trying to get rid of large scale applications in favor of things that should run faster and handle a larger scale of simultaneous clients. Not to mention cutting out the cpanel licensing and headaches.

I recently bought an Acer Laptop with vista on it, about 2 months ago. I don't have any major problems with it. But a few things jump out at me.
  • Why does the graphical shading effect horde so much memory?
Next two are big ones:
  • Why would anyone want their programs to align themselves in a sort of side ways column to be scrolled though, when theres a task bar at the bottom with them lined up right there?
  • Whats with the side panel thing, with the clock and the calendar, when theres one in the task bar? And why does it take up so much memory?
A friend disabled the two latter... useless... features of vista to improve performance. There are a lot of unnecessary gadgets and features in there that just horde memory, and cause computers to slow and overheat.

Thats my complaint.

for dual monitors, sidebar can be kind of interesting...sort of. i'm in the process of making one that shows a list of failed software builds and the build status of projects so i can peek at it without having to move my mouse down to the systray. a lot of work to be lazy? uhh..yes!
