Ok, so i figured out right after i redid my xp drive that i can get a copy of Vista Business 64bit for free. I have XP and ubuntu working just fine, but im extremely curious to try out vista business copy, and just do an upgrade install. think its really worth a try? i know i brought this up before but i know i can use XP till windows 7 comes out but i figure i have to pay more in the long run for it.
 
If you upgrade your XP install to vista, you will not be able to use your XP key anymore, it locks it. Be very sure you want to go to vista because you cant go back, the XP cd key will be deactivated and you wont be able to activate it by calling microsoft.
 
you can install vista clean..but vista will actively look for xp or a previous version..so don't try to dual boot vista and xp(unless you do it inside a vm).
 
Unless you got a beast of a machine or DX10 games, Vista isn't worth it. Games run slower some, and I wasn't that impressed with it.

If you want to screw up your computer by installing Vista, don't let any of us stop you.

Yeah, I bought a laptop; unfortunately it came with Vista pre-installed. And it sucked. Horribly.

i amazingly forgot to add "no flaming" to my first post. but ima prolly try for it later in the weekend and do a full clean and play with it for a few days, post about it on my blog then delete it.

That wasn't a flame, it was a statement of firsthand experience.

My first hand experience building a 6400+ AMD AM2 for a chinese student i know and installing vista and everything, i had no complaints from myself or him. Vista isnt a end all crap piece, shoot didt HCS say he loves building computers with vista because he gets more money out of it? either that or i totally misinterpreted that postage that i cant find >.> .

I was referring to him. And no I have been a naughty poster :P

If you gave me a brand new computer but stipulated that I had to use vista I would decline to take it either that or throw it off a really tall building just because it would be worth it.
 
meh, u guys are full of it. my comp is running pretty fine with vista 64bit, aero is pretty enough. feel like im in ubuntu half the time since its shiney-'ish. so far no issues, driver problems, etc.

Err, yeah, I have Vista and it works pretty well... I mean, yeah, it has bugs, but we just need a Service Package.

...well, I must confess, it's with an AMD something-or-other dual core with 3 GB of RAM, so there's not a whole lot of lag that's associated with Vista, but still...
