Officer SOE/LoE/Where's "here"?
Matthew 5:16 New King James Version (NKJV)

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

A hard concept to define really. Let your light shine. It is in everything you do, speech, how you treat others, how you go about doing things. The hundred and one little things you do every day, done for Him. It can become such a habit you never think about it until someone comments on it. I have been part of a life style change group meant for losing weight and thinking about health differently, and today just before class a person who sits next to me told me he assumed that I was a man of faith and asked if I did any preaching. Considering I never attempted to "beat someone over the head" with a King Jimmy version Bible it stopped me for a minute. What was I doing different? I'm still not sure, but I hope to continue to do so, and I pray that your life too will shine in such a manner.

You have a very unique definition of preaching by a man of faith...

But I think this sums up what you are trying to say without insulting anyone.

James 2:14-21(KJV)
What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.
Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

We will never be able to work our way to heaven but if we truly are indwelled by the Holy Spirt, if we truly have Christ's offered forgiveness and are a new creature in Him, our lives ought to show that. People should see a difference in the way we speak and act, the way we treat others, the things we do and the friends we keep. A life that is unchanged and fails to show Christ's touch is probably a life untouched by Christ. Even satan and the devils believe in Christ. Belief in Christ will not get you to Heaven any more than giving to the poor or helping your neighbor do something they can't do by themselves. It takes Faith in Christ. But if that Faith fails to produce actions, it's not a true faith.

Thank you for a little clarification Wolfeman. I wasn't referring to just preaching, but those whose idea of witnessing is buttonhole someone, then harangue them 10 minutes out of the Bible trying to make someone see what dirty rotten people they are. Yes it sometimes works, but not very often. As you point out it is the life of Faith and works that is lived out naturally that makes the most difference. The funny thing about it is that once we start living it out we don't often think we are doing anything special, until someone that is not a brother or sister in Christ asks about it, or points it out.

Well, there is a difference between telling someone how to be saved and showing them Christ in us. Any lost person can take a Bible and show you how to be saved. Only saved people can show what it means to be saved.

Our lives should show Christ to those around us, not just in our actions but in our attitude and every part of our being. It should be that something intangible that make people notice us and then pay attention to us to see what about us is different. It should lead to conversations where people ask and we can tell them why we are different. If our lives are truly lived for and thru Christ, we should find the opportunity to witness a great deal more than we'd imagine.

And at that point, we can explain to people what dirty rotten people they are and why they need Christ. Using the Bible, an ABC plan or our own personal testimony.
