TS3 Alternatives

The mumble client isn't the problem..the server is the issue. There is no web interface or any kind of interface to add users. STC would have to manually edit the program's config files to add or remove users. Plus the install of mumble isn't as straightforward as TS2 is at all. We'll give it a whirl once the cga site gets vb4 installed and ready to go. I don't want to start a voip project and then have to jump to vb4...

I just had an idea..need to run it by Tek/stc first.

Mumble uses a user list in either SQLite or MySQL. It is more of a matter of creating a page to write to the users table (which is sorta lame).

Ok I have setup a user level account on the server for viop server testing. STC has the keys to it and he's your POC for this project. If something requires more than a user-level install he'll let me know. If you want to help in this project please contact STC95..:)

I can setup a sub-domain if required for web access..right now it's just a user shell.

try looking at this: http://blabbelon.com/

It just came out today.
Blabbelon? I see what they did there.

It would be ironic (and funny) if a Christian gaming community ended up using a voice communication with a name that's a play on "Babylon."

Unfortunately, Blabbelon uses one (or multiple) centralized servers directly controlled by the service provider. That means we couldn't run our own server, which means we would have limited control. Since we seem to attract griefers (people who get a kick our of harassing Christians), we need to equip our server admins to kick/ban troublemakers. (It's the same reason several Tribe of Judah members are upset with Infinity Ward for abandoning dedicated servers in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, but that's a topic for a separate thread.)

It's a cool idea, though, and I'll try to remember to keep an eye on it. Maybe at some point they'll offer a free server that runs on Linux. I'd still prefer a standalone client over a web-based client, but a dedicated server would at least make Blabbelon an option.
