Tribes?

Just curious if any one here ever got into Tribes, and if they're looking forward to Tribes: Vengance. (?)

Tribes on the UT2003 engine? *winces* Although I love the UT2003 engine, I can't quite get my head around producing a Tribes game using a pre-existing game engine. It's almost as bad as taking a classic name such as Wolfenstein, slightly updating an engine that's been on the market for more than three years, and--Oh, wait, nevermind.

*cough*

Anyway, I'll be sure to check out the game known for its open areas, team-based combat, and all the other things we've come to associate with Unreal 2: Extended Multi--I mean, uhh, Tribes.

Heh. ^_^;;

I have Tribes and Tribes 2 and I enjoy both games, but I always had a hard time finding decent people to play with.

re: XMP and Tribes comparisons...you're totally right Tek, I was reading the description of Tribes: Vengance and all I kept thinking was XMP.

But then again, XMP owes a lot to Tribes 1 and 2 in the first place (jet packs, 3 "classes/armor types", large open arenas)...

Speaking of which, we have to get together and do a little XMP together sometime...I don't know when, but sometime.

I absolutely loved Tribes 1, Havoc was the mod I played the most. Tribes 2 I hated simply because my computer couldint handle it when it first came out so I cursed it's name and went to Counter-Strike. They better not make Vengance suck or I will be forced to cry like a little girly man :-|

I'm not sure how I feel about Vengence. First of all, I'm disappointed by the name. I am also a huge Mechwarrior fan and feel that the whole vengence angle is being a bit overdone. If T:V is like the original, kudos, if not, then I'm not interested. I am a Shifter X player, most of you who have ever played on a HomeLAN server probably have laser burns from me. This is an interesting project to watch, though.

I'm not really up on my Tribe fiction - are Trbies and Mechwarrior related? Maybe I just misunderstood your post.

As for Vengenace, you mean story-wise it's over done or something else? Personally, I think we'd have very few video games (and probably no kung-fu movies) if humanitiy's thirst for revenge wasn't mined for story telling material. Granted, it's an easy way to tell a story, easy to illustrate character emotions and motives (that guy wants to get that guy 'cuz he killed the other guy's uncle/neice/aunt/father/mother/teacher/neighbour/spiritual leader/shoe shine boy) and it's been told a million times, so I can understand the frustration with it's use, again.

Still, the story elements with the new Tribes, at least from what I read, should provide a really unique and rewarding single player experience. I mean, you get to play different characters through out different phases in their lives (ie. one level you're a young girl, and then another level you're somebody else. Then, later in the game you're the girl/woman again, but she's much older now). I don't know, I think it'll be neat.

I just meant that the whole "he killed my (insert relation here) so I must kill him" is overdone. Maybe they could make a game like "he killed my (insert relation here) and I need to just go on living my life and try to learn to forgive him".
T:V looks promising, but so did Tribes 2 and I really never did like that game. But I'm patient, so we'll see how this turns out.

I never really got into Tribes anyone ever heard of Tribes clan called CoAxe (spelling sux sound it out)? They only lost one match ever to a team of hackers (truth). They still counted it as lose though.

Every report of a Tribes aimbot that I heard was proven false. The only cheats I knew of where within the mod. Like in havoc you could put down as many laser turrets as you wanted if you did it right. It quickly became painfully obvious if you indeed where doing it tho so it never effected matches.

I played tribes 2 quite a bit until classic arena died out.
I was 12th ranked for arena at one point. When Arena died it got a little boring for me. I quite frankly found everything else too easy.
I am looking forward to T:V though. I hope it can add some original elements to the game rather then just copy a bunch of other games.
