Tribe of Judah web site password protected, not publicly available

The ToJ web site has been password protected, meaning users will be prompted to enter a username and password when visiting the site. I suspect the lockdown may be related to last night's membersweep reminder situation, but I did not receive word from our web host in advance of the lockdown.

I've submitted a support ticket to GearHost asking for an explanation and a resolution. Stay tuned to this thread for updates.

Actually, we started trying to access it a couple of hours ago. I know every time *I* try, it says

" A username and password are being requested by http://www.toj.cc. The site says: "TRITON" "

I submitted the support ticket for this issue at 3:41 p.m. Central. Still no reply as of 6:10 p.m. Central and the site is still prompting visitors for a username and password.

Going on 4 hours and still no reply from GearHost. I added a note to the support ticket at 7:21 p.m. Central explaining the urgency of resolving the issue.

The site is gwoky here at 8:00 central (just my test for your fyi).

Tek has been getting hammered hard lately by the problems but don't worry we won't leave you :) .

toj.cc is password protected with a popup login box.

CGAlliance.org is not. I don't think I've been to toj.cc in months since all it is, is a list of new members as far as I can tell.

Glad to know it. :)

On the bright side, I'm more motivated than ever to delegate management of the web site to someone else. -_-

While most members don't visit the site regularly, the site still includes the membership application and roster that are essential to continued operations.

It's my sincere hope that our next site will offer many more reasons for members to visit regularly, but, as stated elsewhere, the new site won't be built until a member steps forward and volunteers to lead the project.

GearHost support replied to the ticket at 8 p.m. Central, apologized for the delay, and explained the situation. A system administrator had disabled anonymous access to the site since our account was causing issues with the mail relay server. While I understand and agree with the decision to temporarily lock down the account, I would have preferred that GearHost provided notice beforehand.

I've replied to the ticket, confirming that the script that caused the issue has been disabled and the site is safe to be re-opened to the public. Now, we wait.

The site was briefly available without a password prompt this morning (around 7 a.m. Central), but as of 12:20 p.m. Central, the site is locked down again. I've re-opened the relevant support ticket and am awaiting a reply from GearHost support now.

EDIT: And for those wondering, I deleted the membersweep script entirely from the ToJ site in response to the issues we encountered over the weekend.

So even after deleting the membersweep script, GearHost reported that something on our site was still causing issues on their mail relay server. I've contacted one of ToJ's web development experts, but if anyone else is willing to review the code and determine what the root problem is, please send me a PM.

If I knew more than very basic html (most of which I've forgotten) I would help but I'm not at a point I can put on learning php, scripting, style sheets and whatever. Already to lazy on the things I need to be doing don't need to add to the stack XD .

I know Basic from back when MSDOS was an actual operating system and not a shell. Pascal, Turbopascal and I played with aseembly language but all that was so long ago all I really rembmer is
10 ? "Hi ";
20 Goto 10

I can also program Allen Bradley and Westinghouse PLC's if that would help. Other than that my dumb look is bout the best I can do.

I don't think any current members who've read my repeated calls for help with building a new web site are likely to volunteer for the Lead Web Developer position at this time.

My hope in repeating the call is to reach members who have recently joined or may have missed the past calls for help. I also plan to bump the call for help every so often to make members who've recently joined aware of the need for a Lead Web Developer.

It's frustrating when I consider how a dated web site is the public face of a community that's thriving and current. I understand members use forums far more often than the web site, but potential new members still need to go through our web site to apply for membership. I want our web site to show that our community is thriving instead of giving the wrong impression.

And Gerbil: I'd rather have you concentrating on your TF2 maps than learning web programming from scratch, but that's more about my selfishness. :)

The Tribe of Judah web site is unlocked and available to the public again!

/cheer

Glad to hear the website is back up. I started toying with Joomla a few years ago, but never got very far with it. If I knew more, I'd volunteer.

Ive hosted multiple Wordpress and *nuke CRM's but nothing that had to be custom besides maybe editing a theme or two to make it work for me.. If I knew more I would also volunteer.. :)
