hey guys, unfortunetly I just found out i have to be a little late.

We'll still kick off @ 7pm est, but i won't be there till closer to 8pm.

The good news is, we should be there awhile tonight

I should be around too. There is some server weather coming through right now that I hope clears out in the next hour or so and I'll be on then.

ok I havent been able to connect to steam since the release of 1.6. The beta worked fine, except I cant get that to work either now. I always get the same: failed to connect to any GeneralDirectoryServer error, or something like that. I'm kinda thinking its my computer that cant connect. I dont have any ports blocked in my router. Do any of you know what could be going on? I'd kinda like to join you guys tonite.

thats it!... I have 2 other comps I can try this on.

edit: same problem on other computers...its all steams fault once again

aHA! 2 other comps!!!!!! that means your using a router!

The following ports must be "open":
UDP 1200
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27030 to 27039 inclusive

I'm assuming that u know how to set up your router to open those ports.

. same with firewall, you must open those ports with firewall, or disable your firewall

Fun night started slow, but we ended with with a pretty good showing.

thanks to all those who came out, we'll be doing it again soon!

Thats exactly what I thought but like I said earlier....

I have no firewalls that I know of either.  And the other comps couldnt connect either, and they for sure do not have any personal firewalls.  Unless your talking about a router firewall im clueless as to what is causing this.  (No wait maybe its steams fault

)   I didnt see anything about firewalls in my router setup.

What OS are you running? If it's XP, try checking your "Internet Connection Firewall"...that is the worst thing Microsoft ever coded into this OS. That has caused a lot of networking issues for some people...I would just disable it altogether.

Ok I went to windows help to try and do that and it tells me this:

1. Open Network Connections
2. Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that you want to protect, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
3. On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Firewall, select one of the following:

The problem is when I get to step 3, I dont have an advanced tab

Is there any other way I can disable this?

The "Advanced" tab you're looking for is located on the "Local Area Connection Properties" window.

Go to: Start > Control Panel > Network Connections

Click on: Local Area Connection > Properties

On the Local Area Connection Properties window, click on: Advanced (3rd tab)

Uncheck: the checkbox labeled "Intenet Connection Firewall"

This only works under Windows XP, I'm running Professional version. Hope this helps!

I did exactly that and I only have the General Tab, and the Authentication Tab.  (I am running XP Pro)

Was this optional in the windows setup or something?

Aargh.  Thanks Flash and Elite for trying

Somethings wrong w/ ur Winxp.. I didn't see anything about choosing to install firewall or anyting.. you will want to disable it. So far using that, i got 200 ping on every server, lagged so much in SC, wouldn't let me connect in AIM, can't view images in ToJ/CGA forums, takes 20 min to get to www.toj.cc with cable.. and so on. (i got more ;) )
