Tired of cluttered start menus?

I hate the start menu in Windows. Instead of catagorizing by program function as many versions of Linux do, windows organizes by COMPANY (not even program) and I've had up to four or even five columns on my start menu!

Well, there's a solution. Launchy is a free, open source keystroke launcher that takes up virtually no resources but makes the start menu obsolete.

http://www.launchy.net/

All you do to start a program is hit alt-space (or any combination you would prefer) and then start typing the name of your program. Launchy suggests 4 (or more) programs and when the one you want is selected, you hit enter and it runs! Even better, Launchy learns from your input and will get increasingly accurate -- i.e. if you want to type "internet" to start firefox, just type "internet" and browse for firefox. Next time you type 'internet' firefox will pop up within a couple keystrokes!

It can also browse your internet favorites or launch google searches though I've had less experience there.

*no, I don't profit from launchy downloads, I just hate start menus that much*

Ive used launchy before, its pretty sweet. Reminds me of quicksliver on the Mac. In the end I always go back to objectdock as I want the high res icons to launch my apps

It was a little warm here today as well. We can always hope for cooler weather tomorrow!

I would rate that pretty high-skill spammage. Deamiter has certainly been at this long enough to know the dangers of making a post that actually contains useful info ... the better/more valuable the initial post, the higher the probability of subsequent spammage.

The exception is wall-of-text attempted useful info posts (my specialty) which kill of the audience so thoroughly that no energy is left over to spam. Or do much of anything, actually. It's almost like spamming yourself before anyone else gets a chance to spam you.

I will try out launchy, however ... very cool, D.

I rarely even open my start menu, I use windows sidebar and program called App launcher. I have my firefox icon on my desktop and I use the quicklaunch function on the taskbar. I like a clutter free desktop so I can enjoy my wallpaper.
