*Thursday Nights: Lower-Level Assistance*

Wh1te Out

New Member
Greetings! I'm writing to inform everyone of a new Thursday night event for Spirit of Elijah members. I believe some of us (myself included) have forgotten what it was like to be new to the game, and so Thursday nights are now being designated as low-level assistance nights. What this means is that myself, and anyone else who would like to volunteer their time, will be available to help those in Old Ascalon (and generally anywhere prior to the Crystal Desert) with quests, missions or just exploring.

I've seen too many posts in guild chat go unresponded to and I feel it is our responsibility to give a little of our own time, just as most of us had someone do for us when we were in a similar position. There is some great high-level content in our game, but we should not forget our brothers and sisters who may need help with something who aren't quite as far along in the game as us. I'd particularly like one person who is dedicated, has some leadership skill and is living on the East Coast to co-lead this venture with me. I will be on to help and coordinate other helpers for those playing during my nighttime hours (West Coast), but I am hoping there is someone that can do the same in my stead for the those who play a bit earlier than I am able to get online. (If you are interested in filling this position regularly on Thursday evenings East Coast time, please PM me.)

I encourage those of you who are actively seeking help for any reason to try your best and log on Thursday nights. From now on, I can promise you that your requests won't go ignored because we are farming in Sorrow's Furnace. See y'all then!

Is this for people wanting to help us lower levels or just getting all lower levels together to do somthin? Like quest missions etc... ?

This is for those of us who spend most of our time playing our Level 20 characters to come back to wherever those who are playing Level 10 characters are and help them with whatever they may need. It happens quite often where someone asks for help in on one of the early missions and no one responds because we are busy doing our own thing, exploring the high-level content of the game. This will help provide some balance between helping each other and enjoying the game at the higher levels.

I am not able to play on most Tuesdays & Thursdays now, (new deal worked out with wife) but I want to also extend these same services to my family. Any time I am online feel free to ask me for help or advice, I will let you know my status and will try my hardest to help you out ASAP

I can cover the crystal desert easily, I have ran to all the challenges, and from oasis to augury. Also we should encorage new people to participate in the forums and ts. Id say we only have about 5 people who are really "active", which spells disaster for any gvg we try to organize. I know alot of us have jobs and family to take care of.

I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised at the lack of activity in the forums. If there are 80+ members here, this place should be bustling with questions/answers, etc. I'd be happy to help lower level players. I really enjoy getting to help others out and I will probably haunt the forums pretty often (now that I've found this guild :)) so I'll answer any questions (that I can :)) as well. I had a *ton* of questions when I first started the game. I will try to login Thursday to help out too (depending on how family time goes I'm usually on around 8:30 Central).

Absolution

Heck, I'd just like to hook up with other players who are actually at the same place as me in the game, let alone getting a level 20 to come back to Old Ascalon to assist. That way it's just one person making gains - two (or more) can complete the same mission at the same time.

I guess the problem is that everybody is progressing through the game at different speeds, so it's hard to stay in synch.

Anyways, when I get on I'll try and make sure I hook into the team speak server as well. I forgot that existed.

Absolution, most of the low forum activity is due to a large portion of our membership still being in school (whether that be high school or college). Very few of us have time during our normal workdays to spend it all on the forums, like I do. Hehe.

We are trying to actively change that, though, and get more members involved. Any assistance you want to provide will be more than appreciated I'm sure! :)

I'm 34 and I work out of my house so I'm almost always at my computer during the day. I'd imagine that once people realize that questions that are posted to the forums are being answered quickly, they'll start using the forums more often.

I can help out by tackling a lot of Guild Wars related questions. I don't know everything there is to know about the game (by any stretch) but I've been playing for a few months and should be able to answer a lot of them. Maybe that will help.

I appreciate the interest in helping lower level players. I have to admit that my lack of activity on the forum and perhaps in the game was due to my growing perception that if you're not lvl 20 then you're useless to the guild. I've ran most of my quests with henchmen :( .

I hope to actually meet and participate in more interactive gaming soon. All my players are apparently still very low. And most are still in the sheaverpeaks. I have been completing all secondary quest and explore most of the map before progress by completing the primary quests. Perhaps I just need to forge ahead. The desert sounds like an interesting place  .

The desert is fun. Once you get to the desert, there are 3 quests you have to complete and then you can "ascend" which means you have to fight your mirror (doppleganger). That can be a tough fight until you find the right tactic.

After the desert, there are not very many quests that you can finish with hench. I have no problem helping out with other quests but all my chars are lvl 20. If you don't mind having a lvl 20 char in your party, shout when you see me online and I'll give you a hand wherever you are.

my growing perception that if you're not lvl 20 then you're useless to the guild.

Well the leadership of this guild wants to work hard to change that perception. We now have characters committed to staying in Pre-searing to help people. We also are trying out the Thursday "help a guildmate day" :p

As Bek mentioned, we are trying to work on forum education as well. Maybe we will have another contest soon to get ppl to use them more. I know that there are many of us who check the forum constantly, so questions will get answered ASAP.

Personally, I am at the point in playing now, where I really desire to help as much as possible. BUT I cannot play on Thursdays  So please ask for company any time I am on. I know that others are the same way, so anyone who is reading this... please ask for company on a quest and there is a good chance you will get it. Even if you don't need "help" it is always more fun to quest with a Guildie.

Even if that Guildie happens to only be a level 8 E/R? *cough* *hack* *wheeze* me *cough* *spit out gunk in throat*

'Scuse me, I have allergies this time of year.

Along the lines of the perception comment, I'm gonna add something to what Syd already said. I've found that some members don't ask for company. So the first step in getting others to adventure with you is to ask if someone is available to do so. I also like the idea of trying to schedule missions and big quests here on the forums in order to get a group together (like what just recently transpired with the Villainy of Galrath quest group). But if you rely on the hope that there will be others online when you are at the exact same point in the game, you may be disappointed more often than not. :(

So, please ask if you want buddies for adventuring with. As Syd mentioned, we are actively trying to change the perception that the higher-level content is all there is to the game. It's all about balancing personal playtime and assistance playtime.

My Monk and my Warrior are both still in the Northern Shiverpeaks so hit me up sometime. I would love to group up. I'm giving my 2 high level characters a rest unless there are guildies to group with. SF farming isn't what it's cracked up to be with henchies anymore. It's like they nerfed the greens unless you are grouped with real ppl. And my Ranger is stuck at Thunderhead like a lot of ppl.

First of all, I appreciate letting us know. Without feedback like this, we'll just keep doing the wrong things and we'll never know how it affects some people negatively.

Secondly, that's part of the reason we're doing the Thursday night thing.

I also apologize for my late, LATE arrival. I have been "Busy, Busy, terribly Busy, there's so many things that I have to do" [/VEGGIE TALES]. I promise you guys that when things settle down a bit for me in a couple of weeks, I'll be able to spend more than the 25 minutes I've spent on GW this week.

I really like this idea and hope it gets applied more. This guild has been great for advice/gear/gold for any of us poor lowly pre assended guys. It would be great for the teamups to be the same way. I play City of Heroes also and have friends who play other mmos and the ones who have tried this game all seem to agree that pickup teams in this game are redicuously hard to find an even semi desent one. If I cant get Guildmates I usually windup just getting henchmen for any sidequest/hunting/exploring.

Part of the problem is the way the game is set up, if you dont have the same quest no xp, and average monster xp generally sucks compared to quest xp. I have to say though that many of the people who play in this game have the attention span and quest commitent level of a gnat. They get 1 or 2 deaths and then bail. Heck you dont even lose xp or lvls or anything when you die in this game so I dont understand why people bail so quickly.

I haven't had any problem questing with real humans so far, though I've only done it 3 or 4 times now. I've usually gone "tit for tat": I'll help them nail down one quest that I've already done and then they'll help me with one of my quests.

(BTW, if anybody's looking looking to group for quests in Old Ascalon or Serenity Temple (located north of Fort Ranik through those Flats), or wants to hit the Fort Ranik "back to the wall" (or whatever) quest in a few days, I'm up for it...)

Gotta agree with that. I came to GW from DAoC, and one of the big culture shocks is the spirit of the community (in the game overall, NOT in SoE. SoE is great). I think it's a side effect of the lack of a monthy fee and the fast-fast-fast nature of the game. It doesn't lend itself to building relationships with people outside your guild... It should improve somewhat when they add features to make it easier to find other people with the same quests, etc.

Overall, however, GW is such a fantastic game that it's easy for me to be patient waiting for this aspect to get better.
