5:10 "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5:11 "Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
5:12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

I'm sure we are all familiar with the Beatitudes, it is just that I think sometimes we look at it wrong. Sometimes I think that we look at it as a shopping list to pick one thing to strive for. I will be meek and let others worry about the rest of the list. It is actually things that as disciple of Christ we are to strive for. Not meaning that we have to be slandered or persecuted, but seeking meekness, being merciful, wanting to be righteous, etc. We can try for the whole thing, not only to be blessed, but to be a blessing to others.
