This thread = Serious discussion of weighty matters

Your Pistols are pretty close to the .50 guns.

To ammo, I'd rather have a weak 17-33 bullet Glock than a "knock-back" 18 bullet USP, or a powerful 7 bullet, Deagle.

Having fired both 9mm and .45 I will say there is not much difference in the recoil. You can fire a .45 all day and only get minor wrist pains. However the .45 has much more stopping power, as it will knock the zombie back further and cause much more damage. I have never fired a .50, but most of the guns I have seen are made out of steal and not polycarbonate, so they will be very heavy.

Hmm...the ever-present zombie predicament. I've thought this one over before and this is what I've come up with.

1. Backpack (filled with water, energy bars, medical supplies, etc.)
2. Rope (you can never have enough rope)
3. Lighter (a good zombie is a zombie on fire, and its better than any flashlight)
4. Sat-phone or radio (gotta keep in touch with other survivors)
5. Swiss army knife (never know when you'll need a screwdriver, corkscrew or elsewise)

Ok, now onto weapons.

1. m40a3 Sniper rifle slung over my back (http://www.snipercentral.com/m40a3.htm) (ammo in backpack)
2. 9mm Glock holstered on the back of my belt (ammo on belt clips)
3. Concussion grenades and frag grendaes strapped to chest
4. 12 gauge shotgun in hand
5. Cattleprod strapped to one leg

Think that about does it.....however, some important things to keep an eye out for are:

1. Propane tanks (great for incendiary devices\explosions)
2. Firetrucks w\ hose attachments (ever seen a zombie slip-n-slide?)
3. Barbed wire (string this between two poles and hook some electricity into it for a fence)
4. Alcohol, good for molotov cocktails, cleaning wounds and other cocktails.
5. Costume shops (dressing up as them might fool them for a bit)
6. Grocery stores (resupply as needed, cart race down aisles, get expired meat and use it to lure zombies into traps)
7. Michael Jackson thriller soundtrack (to keep your spirits up, and hey, who knows, maybe they'll dance?)
8. Bandana's (stylish accessory and great for a tourniquet)
9. Sturdy vehicles (great for off-roading, running over masses of zombies)
10. Computer store (now you can build the system of your dreams with no money!)

Things important to avoid:

1. Abandoned military outposts (they're abandoned for a reason folks)
2. Large open areas (unless in your halloween zombie outfit)
3. Ice cream parlors (its all gonna be melted\spoiled)
4. Men\women with no common sense (though I'd assume they'd be dead already, if not they'll only get themselves\you killed)
5. Sportscars (It might be your best chance to drive one of your dreams, but they don't hold up well against zombies)
6. Chainsaws (while fun, all that blood can get in your eyes making it harder to avoid bites)
7. Small buildings with only one or two entrances\exits. (Keep multiple escape routes accessible)
8. 5 star hotels to sleep at (zombie snobs are very protective of their area, still)
9. Computer stores (we'd all be tempted and distracted, best to stay away)
10. Spiders (cause they're freaking spiders man, scary!)

I dunno, Elihu, that's a weighty list. Make sure you can carry that for long periods of time (hours of marching--try wearing your pack around for a day when you're not on the run as a test), but if you can... good for you! Awesomeness! ^_^

Doesn't matter, stopping power means nothing if you're facing an opponent who cannot feel pain and will not let the lack of various body parts stop it from pursuing you. Focus on something that is accurate more than focusing on stopping power, you want that headshot and you want it fast! As long as it can puncture a skull, it's good.

I seriously considered sending an e-mail to jobs AT valvesoftware DOT com linking to Elihu's post and recommending Valve hire him as a consultant for Left 4 Dead.

I'm still considering it.

Haha, go for it man! What have you got to lose?

I understand stopping power, playing mostly Zombie games on my PS2/PC, the firearms are better than others.

RE:Outbreak

Kevin is the only character that carries a .45.
Unfortunately, in the whole game, .45 rounds/ammo are very scarce.
As his role is a Cop (R.P.D), pistols are his expertise.

Mark, however, uses a Custom Beretta and his pistol uses 9mm rounds/ammo, which are plenty in the whole game.
His role is a Security Guard, similar but his expertise are handling blunt weapons due to his large size.

In RE:OF2, the exceptions is that they carry clips with their pistols, but still, .45 ammo/rounds are very scarce.

If I can ever record a gameplay like that, then you'll see.
(Unless you've played RE:O/RE:OF2)

Zombie Horde (CS:S)

For that game, it only depends on the player's skill.
(Except if its a barricade style game)

Weapon Choices: M3/M4/MP5, Glock/5.7/Elites.
Favorites: P-90, P228.

That is a good idea, Elihu. Though, I feel your sniper rifle is a bad choice as its only 5 rounds, compared to a AWP, which is 10.

But, if your that kind of sniper from, Dawn of the Dead, then OK.
(Technically, he owns the Gun Shop.)

Games often times misrepresent what is reality. Often times developers will go with what they feel and not actual real world stats. For instance the UZI is usually given a high rate of fire, while it is valued for its accuracy and low recoil. The p90 is another misrepresented weapon, its 5.7mm round penetrates body armor very easily and chews up a good portion of your insides due to the deforming of the bullet on impact, yet is often given no more power then a mp5.

In the real world .45 ammo is very easy to get, in fact it is one of the most stocked bullets besides .22 and 9mm.

So then, would you say, Left 4 Dead, their weapons would be "misrepresented"?

M16 with 50 ammo, etc?

Do you know if CS:S also "misrepresented" the weapons than CS? Or are they just the same?

I heard the P-90 in CS is not a body armor-piercing sub-machine gun.
And yet, that was the whole point I used that weapon other than its extreme fire rate.

CS is hardly accurate at all. You can shoot a person in the toe and kill them with an awp.

Also: Molotov cocktails good anti-zombie weapon when the zombies are clustered into a mob of 50 or more? Discuss. Remember that as long as they can walk, the zombies will continue grabbing at things even if they're on fire (so victims could potentially be TORCHED)

Flaming zombies are always a bad idea. Just imagine a horde of them marching in and collapsing on flammable materials.

A flaming zombie just dies slowly.

When I flamethrower the zombies in Resident Evil 2, they didn't die.
I actually got fire damage when they were burning on the ground.

A anti-zombie weapon would be instant death; shot to the head/brain, head cut off, head blown off, etc.

In RE:O, an anti-zombie weapon was a Capsule Shooter (George only) with Anti-virus pills. Its as effective as a Magnum.

In RE: OF2, I loved the Elimination because it gave you limited weapons, limited health items and different enemies in a maze full of doors.
Its a big challenge since you'd have to memories what door goes where and which enemy you face.

Showdown is the same except you face Bosses!

Gameplay with 4 players online, such helpful teammates!
