The Workforce

I am a Sr. Help Desk Specialist. I am responsible for everything in my facility IT related, including 350 users, all of the equipment, network, etc. I also take care of most of the data analysis.

Dream Job - Restaurateur/Chef

Oh ya.

My dream job: Professional slacker

(We can dream can't we?)

or Consultant/Programmer
You do realize that those are as far from one another as possible. As an IT Consultant I can tell you that I easily knock in 45 hours of actual programming (designing, coding, testing, reviewing, etc) per week. Couple that with the 10 hours of administrative duties (gotta keep a finger on the jr. programmers) and finally another 10 or so hours of keeping up on the latest and greatest in software concepts.

So, I'm putting in 65 hours a week at a minimum. Next week promises to be worse.

I am currently a Senior Computer Science Major, but I also work part time as a Enterprise Systems Administrator (read Server Administrator).

My dream job would be Programming for Department of Defense contracts.
I've done DoD contracts. They're not nearly as fun as business contracts. DoD usually has a whole host of requirements, documentation and other evil things that just drive up the cost, eat time and are generally not used, but are required for their software life cycle.

And that's even before you start talking about things that are under security.

I thought it might be cool to see what kind of jobs most of CGA has. Being as we all attain different levels of geekdom, i imagine that there are a lot of PC related jobs..
Also feel free to post your dream job.. Skills and capital no object :D

To kick it off:

My Job: I work as an engineering technician (training to be a principal structural engineer) for a company that designs distribution centres.. I get to play with all kinds of cool software like AutoCAD, Revit, WinDES, Moss, TEDDS and other such things.. I would say that 3D modelling in Revit is the best part.

My dream job: Definitely torn between the idea of setting up some sort of LAN cafe or something similar and being a musician. Of course being talented enough to play all my own instruments and do all my own programming is wayyyy into fantasy..lol.

My job(s): 1. crew supervisor for a local lawnmowing company 2. Owner of Emmanuel Computer Consulting, L.L.C.

My Dream Job: Have ECC big enough that i can provide for my family without gen having to work...not having tow ork two jobs.

You are employed overtime with ToJ and CGA.
"Employed" implies that I'm paid for what I do. Which I'm not. I'm glad to contribute my time and abilities to both groups, but it doesn't pay the bills. :(

And you are a student, which is more important.
I haven't been a student since I graduated with my Bachelors degree in May 2006. I want to go back and get my Masters at some point, but I don't know when I'll be able to afford it.

My Job: Video Product Manager for a security systems integrator. I manage the video products that we sell, which includes product evaluation, technical training, developing sales support and marketing materials, liaising between our sales and engineering departments, interfacing with security and IT personnel at our customers, and whatever else needs to happen to make things go smoothly. Lots of hats makes for variety and interesting days.

(On a side note, I'm wondering who Corpfox works for - sounds like we're in the same industry.)

Dream job: Being in a position where I get to do what I'd like to do rather than what I have to do. Don't get me wrong, I like my job, but if I wasn't responsible for putting in 40+ hours a week to support my family, I'd love to just 'do ministry'. I have no interest whatsoever in vocational ministry, but if I could spend my time 'doing life' with people, mentoring, discipling, and just generally being iron sharpening iron, I'd LOVE that. I get to do some of that in the role that God currently has me serving in, but I'd love to be able to give it 'the first' of my time, and not just what too often feels like what is left over after work.

Just because I forgot whether or not I posted here...

My current job: Errrrm I work in a kitchen at a summer camp. Volunteering. Blegh. VERY fun, though, I s'pose. :D

My dream job: Running a pastry shop. >_> <_< don't laugh. It's beginning to trump my other "future job want": graphic design.

mmmm... pastries...

Not really sure if anyone here besides Tek remembers me/cares, but Ph.D. student in mathematics at Stanford. Currently, I'm on fellowship from the National Science Foundation, so I'm not technically employed, but once that runs out in three years, I'll be getting my paychecks from the university for entertaining the undergrads during section for their calculus classes.

I'm not working at the moment, but I'm hoping to get a job at the movies (ticket person maybe? :P) since it's a very short walk (4-5 blocks?) and I get to see free films. That, or I could take a bus to Fred Meyer's and work in the Electronic section. Also could join a Carpentry job around town, but with $4.40+ a gallon, I don't think our 16MPG truck could handle it. xD Need to seek God about employment and which is the right choice.

Dream Job: Uh, missionary work. Or working at a Youth Camp. :D

From Starcraft to math, our young prodigy never ceases to amaze. I remember when Kralgon was 14 years old and sparring with Candle on Battle.net. Have I really been involved in Christian gaming that long? Oy.

Job: 1. PhD Student Sydney Uni (Teacher Stress). 2. Senior Consultant/baby psychologist at a Organizational Psychology Consultancy.

Dream: Professional Development with teachers with research on the side.

Anyone want to share what they do for a living and what their dream job is?

I'm self-employed in my family business with my Mother and Father, and brother. We are service men in the HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing fields.

I went to school for my dream job (Mechanical Engineering so I thought), but after my father was laid-up with a brain hemorrhage my life goals and values changed and I could no long push myself on my education. Now, I feel I'm living my dream by being able to help my small town community with the services I can offer.

I'm always reminded of the quote in Bruce Almighty from Mogran Freeman "...some of the happiest people in the world come home smelling to high heaven at the end of the day..."

Right now I am a professional cashier at a local Ford dealership. woohoo... but it pays.

After working there full time for 3 years and another 1.7 years as part time, it made me want to go into the psychology field to be an I/O psychologist.

I/O psychologists help place people into the right environment so they can do their best and enjoy working at work.

That is my dream job... eventually I will have it.

Edit: I didn't realize how old this thread was... I already posted in it =O.

Oh wells, this is a more up to date post. :D
