The Rules of Anime

ROFL All good ones! And here are my contributions:

  • 75% of all half-Japanese are blonds or redheads; 25% of all full Japanese are, too.
  • Every old, powerful Japanese family is hiding a big secret of some sort. The more powerful the family, the bigger the secret.
  • Any ancient family curse can be broken by love and/or friendship. Amazingly, it usually takes hundreds of years to figure this out.
  • Every prince character is actually lonely, tortured, or horribly misunderstood.
  • The poorest girl in class is always the cutest and the nicest. The prince will fall in love with her by episode two, but he won't admit it before episode twenty.
  • All good-looking guys make cute girls; cute girls make even cuter guys.
  • And at least one character is hiding their gender.

And of course,
  • It's always a matter of family honor. Even what you pack for lunch.

Eww Anime.

-There will always be people who think anime is horrible
-They actually loved watching anime at some point and dont realize they are contradicting themselves.

Anime is 100x better then most of the stuff being made in America.

I bet he played Pokemon as a kid, too.

Although I must say that the Simpsons trump anime. Just because it's funny.

18. Young male teachers will have at least one female student in love with them.

19. If you are a bad guy you can beat up on the good guy as much as you like until he starts saying "unforgivable" that's your signal to run away QUICKLY.

There simply isn't enough American TV animation to make a fair comparison and what little there is is made for younger audiences. You can't compare non-animation stuff to anime either because you can't cheaply make equivalent anime props for live action (giant robot, CGI special effects etc.).

Also with the sheer volume of anime to choose from some of it is bound to be good, but, lets not forget the lemons Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon XD (consider also this is a thread is a list of everything trite about anime.). I think Pokemon had one plot line for 90% of the episodes. Ash and company come upon some wonderful Pokemon related thing they are in awe of, Team Rocket (or substitute) attempts to steal said thing and/or Pikachu, someone screams either captured Pokemon's name, Team Rocket's name and/or Pikachu's name, Rescue occurs, everyone rejoices in the amazing wonder of the world of Pokemon... which you too can buy. I think any youngster that suffered though all the episodes of Pokemon either got brain washed or started wishing for Team Rocket to grill Pikachu... hmmm fried electric rat :p.

Note to readers: Pikachu is The Mighty Gerbil's second cousin twice removed AND boy is he stuck up in person. FYI those rosy red cheeks aren't original he's had "work" done.

I do think overall anime does character development well, but, it should be considering most characters are so similar to characters that have been done before. Watching the recent episode one of Dragonaut I predicted everything that happened in Dragonaut episode 2 -_- .

Just because you can predict something doesn't make it less interesting to watch. Just because someone points a gun at you and you know they are going to shoot you doesn't mean you should give up because you know you are already dead.

Sqweak!... imagine the speed lines please :p

I think your point is originality isn't everything. If something is done well it can still be enjoyable right? While that's very true, like everything there is a limit. I can only see a plot device reused so many times (in a single anime or in different ones) without having my eyes roll out of my sockets (and those things are a slip hazard so you have to watch out :p). Example: Naruto's ninja themed world was fun and something I personally hadn't seen before when it started, but, after the millionth time of hearing about how everyone is "like" Naruto I just wanted to gag.

Consider too if something has been done before it must be done better and/or different or what is the point in watching it? You'd just watch the older better made one.

<side note> The Gerbil, being peculiar, was cheering for Team Rocket before I stopped watching Pokemon (they try so hard T_T :p).

I could be wrong, but, I think Tek got the idea to start this thread when I said...
[OFF TOPIC] Also wouldn't it be nice for once not to have a teenage protagonist. I'm beginning to think you die after high school in Japan :p
You could say one reason I said that was because I was starved for originality. I do like anime because it offers action/adventure, has good character development, offers a window to a culture I haven't seen before (~originality) and most of all because being a artist I'm a animation junkie (being "drawn" to all things "drawn" hehe). However, I still long for some simple, easy ,original things that would make it so much better (other than moral). Would it kill them to center a story on a adult character instead of a teen?!? I'm probably taking it way to personally, but, as an adult I often feel the culture of the world is telling me you aren't supposed to have dreams or adventures anymore and you should just give up and die T_T. It's good thing I don't listen to the world but to God or I'd have hung myself a long time ago. Anyway back to topic :).

20. In every anime every made you absolutely, positively, have to have one character scream another's name at least once even though it will do absolutely, positively nothing. (come to think of it this applies to more than anime -_-.)

21. Ki / Chi is luminescent.

22. Japan has one hot spring for every ten people.

23. A Japanese person can hemorrhage his weight in blood and remain unfazed... usually in nosebleeds.

somehow, kids the size of dwarfs can morph into full-grown adults and/or block a fireball the size of a small planet with no problem

Someone always wants to kill the main character.

Someone close to the main character is a ninja (probably the one with glasses)

There's always one or two set(s) of twins that have strange abilities.

Well, the other option is the "brotherly love" thing, which freaks me out even when I know it is an act, like in Ouran High School Host Club...

Oh, and if you're writing an anime theme song, you MUST insert random English...in the Japanese version of the song.

Exhibit A: Ouran High School Host Club

"Kiss Kiss Fall in Love" "Hey! Hey! Hey!" "Maybe You're My Love!"

Even if a master is exceedingly powerful, there is nothing you can do to get them to attack, save breaking their pipe. In such aftermath, the teacher blames the person who broke the pipe for destroying their house Ex: Bleach
