The real reason the forums went down...

Why did the servers really go down?

Need to change option 2 to read "this is what happens when you run on open source software" as if it was on Vista, it would still be running even if it was defaced and now a spam zombie.

/me puts on fire suit

BECAUSe it's open source software i only had to have the webmin fixed..if this had been vista it would have needed a reformat..:)

None of the above -- I was going to be unavailable all day today so I bribed Tek7 & Hescomingsoon to take down the forums so I wouldn't miss anything juicy. Thanks guys, check's in the mail!

I still want to see how Tek and Hescominsoon vote! I don't think they're voting cause it was the camm option... Voting would be self incriminating!

I'm a HUGE Microsoft fan and I would laugh at you if you had the forums on Vista... Also I have this number that you can call to understand the difference between server OS and Desktop OS.

I know MS extremely well. For MS there's not much difference except the name and some features changes. Server 2008 is based on vista..just like server 2003 was based on server 2k which was based on xp. All ms os'es with the exception of the win9x an 3x series have the same code lineage from nt upwards. If i ran the forums on a windows server we would have triple the downtime as i would hae to reboot the box every month minimum for windows patches.

I have updated this box 7 times this month(not counting the forums)..no reboots needed...MS has it's place right now and that's on the desktop. The only reason any of my client run windows servers is due to one or two applicaitons being windows locked. That is changing. Intuit puts out products for Linux now and more are following. It's taken and is taking time but folks are demanding it.

We need more people to use Power Shell!

ah yes..windows brings back the dis shell renamed as powershell trying to emulate the unix shell..:) I have used it with exchange 2k7 and it's a badly implemented clone of a good unix shell.

Every time there is a forum hiccup ... I continue to be amazed and grateful the Tek and Hescomin have these forums up and running reliably for free to all of us ... Way more so than the games we shell out $15 a month for. And that is DESPITE the server-crashing spam and nekkid mole rat pictures!
