Ghosts, aliens, UFO's, Bigfoot, Nessie, Spring Heeled Jack...

There are TONS of unexplained phenomenon out there. What do you guys think about these things? Are they real? What are ghosts?

I thought this would be a good topic since Halloween is just around the corner.

Also what is your favorite unexplained story?

Mine is Springheeled Jack. He terrorized London in the early 1800's. He was described as Described as tall, thin, powerful, wearing a black cloak, the man could jump 20 to 30 feet vertical. It was reported that he had large pointy ears and nose, with red glowing eyes, and capable of spitting an odd white and blue flame from his mouth.

Here's an excerpt from his stories...

Quote[/b] ]Two days later, on February 22, 1838, Jane Alsop (18) was in her home on Bearhind Lane in the district of Bow, when she heard a wrapping on the door. Answering the door, a black cloaked man exclaimed "I'm a policeman. For Gods sake, bring me a light, for we have caught Spring-heeled Jack in the lane" (a black cloak was traditional uniform attire for policemen of this era). Jane, who lived with her father and two sisters, went to fetch a light for the man. She returned with a candle and as she was handing the light to the man, it shone on his face and she noticed that it was Spring Heeled Jack. He immediately spat a blue and white 'gas' into her face. She attempted to run back into the house but he held on tightly to the back of her hair. One of her sisters managed to pull her out of his grasps and drug her back into the house. Spring Heeled Jack continued banging on the door some time before hastily leaving. Witnesses claim that Spring Heeled Jack left quickly, dropping his coat in a field by Jane's home. Another person was seen scooping up the coat and leaving the area leading police to believe that Spring Heeled Jack may have an accomplice. The Lambeth police took Jane's statement:

He wore a large helmet and a sort of tight-fitting costume that felt like oilskin. But the cape was just like the ones worn by the policemen. His hands were as cold as ice and like powerful claws. But the most frightening thing about him was his eyes. They shone like balls of fire.

The following day another incident occurred on Turner Street near Commercial Road. Once again Spring Heeled Jack knocked on the resident's door. When a servant boy answered the door, Spring Heeled Jack asked to speak to the master of the house, Mr. Ashworth. The boy turned to call Mr. Ashworth when he noticed, out of the corner of his eye, that the visitor was none other than Spring Heeled Jack. With glowing orange eyes and clawed hands, Spring Heeled Jack waved his fist at the boy and leapt over the houses on Commercial Road.

Well now, I am beginning to think you believe EVERYTHING that you read, not including the Bible or things describing or explaining its contents!

ghosts are real. the Bible talks of them, as well as gives prohibitions about consulting them.

UFO's. I don't know about this one. I want to believe in them, for I think it is the height of arrogance to assume that we're the only ones that God created, though we could be unique in our falling.

Actually that reminds me of a sci-fi story I read once, where there was basically a group that made planets for various cosmic entities, and earth was made for an old loner/hermit....

bigfoot/nessie. again, it would be arrogance to assume we've catalogued/captured every type of animal in existance. Since I'm a young earther, I can perfectly believe that nessie is a dinosaur stuck up in that old loch.

i don't think i've ever heard of springheeled jack...though it sounds like it would have made a better movie than that one about Jack the Ripper that recently came out....

I was under the impression that the majority of Christians believed that humans are IT, the only creation in the Universe. What would make you believe that God created other beings to populate the universe? Other than angels of course.

Wouldn't that theory destroy the specialness of Man?

I had a deck of cards filled with mythical creatures and stuff. So I remember Springheeled Jackk it was with creatures like goblins, gremlins, dracula and medusa. I think some of these creatures have to be real and some are just real stories that have been exagorated over time.

I know ghosts are real since I've seen some crazy stuff in my house. But my ghosts are cool.

There has to be aliens as Kidan said it would be pretty arrogant to think earth is the only planet in the universe that has life on it. When I was christian I thought god had to create other beings in the universe because he really screwed up with us. But now its just math look at how big the universe is, it would make no sense that there is no inteligent life out there. Think of what a waste of space it wold be if we are.

Bigfoot and nessie could be real just because no one's got a clear picture of them doesn't mean their fake. Of cource they could also be stories that are over exagorated.

all the "vedios" and foot prints though of "bigfoot" are that of a man or an "animal" that walks upright, landing on the heel and pushing off with the larger toe. most people claim bigfoot to be a missing link type of animal, when it doesnt make sense since we can look at the footprint, and other than it maybe being larger than most mens, it is identical to a mans footprint.

So you think Bigfoot is just some mutant, deformed man hiding out in the woods?

EDIT: BTW, LOL @ your sig. I showed you proof it was from Einstein and you STILL don't believe. And people call ME stubborn

Why?

God never said that His Word was the end-all and be-all of knowledge.  It in fact, infers that there is much that we do not know and which we should strive to learn.

of course, a majority of Christians donot believe in ufo's and the like (the same as a majority of atheists do not).

but as I was saying, we don't know everything, nor does the Bible describe everything to us in intimate, minute details.

Now about the specialness.  not really.  God has shown that He can favor one aspect of His creation over another (since He favors man over angels).  So who's to say that we are not His most favorite creation.  Though, if so, that would imply we are so, because we took the time to fall....We're His favorites because we need Him the most sort of thing.

But anyways, think of it this way.  Parents could have 6 children, yet they are all special to the parents.  To imply that we lose or gain favor due to uniqueness is again arrogance.

As for what makes me believe.  I believe I have seen an ufo.

Seeing a UFO aint' no big thang. Lots of flying objects are unidentified

Christians and Atheists differ on WHY they disbelieve UFO's.

Christians (the majority) believe it's just another trick of Satan to turn people away from God.

Atheists simply don't have enough evidence to explain what they truly are.

Kidan, here are some quotes from christiananswers.net:

[b said:
Quote[/b] ]The Bible does not explicitly confirm or deny the existence of intelligent life from other planets. Although the subject is not addressed explicitly, the Bible teaches implicitly that the only things He created with intelligence are the angels, man, and the animals.

[b said:
Quote[/b] ]The implication of Scripture is that there are no other intelligent beings besides man, animals, and the angels.

[b said:
Quote[/b] ]The Bible does not teach that intelligent life exists elsewhere in our universe. Although our all-powerful God could have created such life had He desired, it seems rather obvious from Scripture that He did not.

LINKITY

Oh I know all those, and have had numerous discussions with Christians and atheists alike concerning them.

Yet I still hold to my view that God would not waste the universe on just us. Think of it this way, during the creation account, there's no spot where God created the angels, yet He did. Because they're recorded in the Bible, Christians accept their existance, even though they are not afforded a description of their creation.

Now, just because God didn't tell Moses about the angel's creation, does that mean they were not created?

Just because we're not told about them explicitly is no reason to deny their existence.

I'd love to see some evidence to back that assertion up too.

I'd like to see Betty and Barney Hill's experience with the occult.

If you don't know who they are, a quick Google search will answer that question.

Excuse me??

Wait, I was involved in the occult and I didn't have any alien experiences. What did I miss out on?

Maybe I was in the wrong occult.

Could someone please post the Biblical references to ghosts? I am curious.

There's a neat program of "UFO's in the Bible" on the history channel right now.
