The ordeal ends

I have to post this so you all know the rest of the story...

first some fill in. I began working on AF 102 tempered padded leather leggings two days ago, looking for a masterpiece. They cost about 100g to make and I lose 25g for every one I sell back.

the last two days have seen me make 160 of those leggings, losing nearly 5 plat, and 8 hours of my life. I was ready to give up at 4am EST, I even typed in alliance chat, "That's it I give up." and as the words appeared on the screen, the masterpiece leggings appeared.

something's I learned
- crafting is frustratingly frustrating. It's annoying waiting for a random number generator to hit the right spot and having no affect on the result (even though I'm supposed to be "Legendary")
- it reinforces the fact that I'm a very impatient person and it's amazing that I even got this far in tailoring.
- MP orders are NOT worth the time and cost. it's not worth your money to order them... and it's not worth the crafter's time to specifically try to craft it. If they are lying around, by all means, buy it.... but ordering... no.
- high-level skilling and MP crafting is NOT fun. Very few things in this game feel as pointless and futile.

Anyways yeah... just some thoughts at 4:15am, having completed the ordeal.

God bless all.

Amazing how total randomness effects our lives. Hang in there Phil. And congrats on successfully creating those 5 plat mp pants. At least you can wear them proudly knowing they were crafted by your own hands! And besides..no matter what the random generator says you are legendary to us!

Does 100% quality really make that big a difference in crafting? Here's a Herald article that makes me wonder.

Q: What effect if any does the quality of a proc tincture have on the proc rate of the weapon that said tincture is applied to? In other words, is there a difference between 94% quality and 100% quality?

A: According to the code we looked at, there is no difference between 94 and 100. I realize that many people feel that there is a difference. If you are among those that thinks it makes a difference, please feel free to send logs. At the top of the log, please list your results (in a hundred swings, how many procced) along with the name of the weapon with the tincture, and the type of creature or player you tested it against. Please note that you need to run the same test several times – one run through with each tincture isn’t enough evidence, because you might have had a lucky run.

If 94-100 quality works for tinctures, wouldn't the same apply for other crafted items? Besides, crafting is supposed to be fun. I've task-crafted my way into fine-alloy and I'm still having a blast. But I do feel your pain. After all, a plat is certainly a lot of moola.

Wow Pip! Being unskilled in the ways of crafting, I did not realize the Legendary signifigance of the work you were doing while I was on last night. My apologies. Well done! : )

Fundraising Idea: Aren't there supposed to be courier missions on the frontiers that reward one with large amounts of $? Maybe we could have a go at one of these as a guild sometime...

First, is any thing really random?

Second, As far as I can tell the only advantage to a 100 qual item vs a 94 qual item is that you can imbue more sc on the 100.

Third, I never order mp, just first pass. My experience has been, using a good crafter, that usually the item will be 96 plus with many 98 to 100. The difference in qual vs the difference in cost and aggravation is an example of the law of diminishing returns.

I agree Alfadur, in general it definitely isn't worth it to order MP, however since I was tailoring my own set, I wanted it to be of the highest quality. Nothing like wearing a MP set of your own handmade stuff <grins>

For everything else (staves, maces, shields) I settle for 99.

You are right

there is no real "random" in this world... God is in control
