The Octopus Rule

You think that's bad? How about the fact that I was introduced to the awesomeness that is Ys via the Sega hhannel. Speaking of awesomeness... how great was the Sega channel?
Wow, the Sega Channel. Just one more piece of evidence that Sega was ahead of its time.

What's more, to add to what you said - how is it that we could stream awesome games via cable box in the early 90s, but now it's 2010 and I've got nothin'.
Because it could conceivably lead to piracy and major publishers like EA and Activision blame most of the industry's woes on piracy already?

I remember reading headlines about a game streaming service that's currently in the works. OnLive, I think it was called? Bah. It's late and I'm too lazy to use my Google-fu.

I've never really gotten into handheld gaming. Any time I would use one (when I'm mobile) is already taken by books.
Ah, that does make sense. I still read, though I'll admit a new and shiny DS game does tend to distract me from books for a while. Still, reading a book in public is far more socially acceptable than playing a DS Lite in public, so I still read quite a bit. (I also read at home.)

And here I was thinking it was because companies realized there is more profit in marketing and getting you to pay for each game, rather than a temporary rental service where you get to play full games for a while.

Tell that to Gamefly.

And yes, I know Gamefly doesn't develop, produce, or publish games. But the point remains.
