The nature of good and evil

Upon further review, I will have to disagree with this.

If I understand correctly, you are suggesting that just as we were created by God, so did God create good, evil and morality.

I disagree because I believe society plays a stronger part in the development of morality than some inherant set of codes.

Different societies will raise children in different fashions with different codes of morals and ethics. An aborigine child will grow up with a different set of morals than a child raised in New York City.

I still contend that society shapes the values of good and evil.

THey shape what poeple think is good and evil, but God has the true knowledge of Good and evil, there is only one God so no matter where you were raised you will be Judged against his moral standards not your own.

No, but then it's entirely likely that we never had it right. That is assuming that there is a right answer though, which is the real question. Does morallity exist? Is there such a thing as good and evil, or did we make it up? And if we did, then does it really matter how we live our lives? Do our lives matter? If good and evil do not exist, I would have to say that they do not. Humm, that sounds existential/nihilist.. I have to think about this.

What makes one god's moral definition of good and evil more true than another's? When it boils down to it, you too are a moral skeptic methinks.

Can you not think of a scenario where good and evil were purely man's fabrication? If you can, the possibility can't be so easily discounted...

Hey, if you never question, you will never truely know.

According to CHRISTIANS there is only one God. Unfortunately Christians are a divided group and cannot accept, as a group, one standard for their beliefs.

As a non-theist I can accept the concept of a "golden rule". Didn't Christ do away with the 10 commandments anyway? Or am I mistaken on that assumption?

I think this sums it up nicely for me:

Different societies have different moral codes.

There is no objective standard that can be used to judge one societal code better than another.

The moral code of our own society has no special status; it is merely one among many.

There is no "universal truth" in ethics-that is, there are no moral truths that hold for all peoples at all times.

The moral code of a society determines what is right within that society; that is, if the moral code of a society says that a certain actions is right, then that action is right, at least within that society.

This is a partial list of the tenents of Cultural Relativism. I say partial because I do no fully endorse Cultural Relativism because freethought defeats relativism. But that's a topic for another day

Thats all good and dandy, but opnce you die and you gace God, all of that will be bast into oblivion and you will face his moral standard, his law and his right and wrong.... and seeing as you are human you couldnt possibly be anything but guilty...

That's assuming that there IS a God. But, hey, thanks for damning me to hell

Hmm...aren't you human too? Then I guess that makes you guilty as well.

I would be guilty, but Jesus has paid my punishment and wants to pay yours as well...

How do I know? Because he showed himself to me and told me so. He will do the same to anyone that wants it so.

Here's how I see it, if something good happens to a religious person they would say god has blessed them. If something good happens to a non religious person they say it was because of luck.

Then y are there so many different denominations of christianity, all having different rules on what is right and wrong.

And is there a special place where u can go talk to Jesus because I've tried to call but the number is always busy. But really people always say god has talked to them, I want to know how u know its god.

So basically you know through faith? But deciding something like that using the thinking strategy of faith is not a good idea, for you can have faith in anything. Why this?

None of you canunderstadnd because god has not spoken to you. Its undenyable to me. He insures me he is within me. there is no english word ofr these feelings. It takes faith to believe him before he reveals himself. You must want it to be true and If you want it t be true, and you want Jesus to give you eternal life It will happen.

Denominations are in my opinion insanity, I do not partake in any denomination.

You know its GOd because only he can change your heart, I used to want to screw all kinds of girls but since God came to me, I dont want anything but marriage and love.

I feel sorry for u, I want to have fun with all the girls, then love and then marriage. In that order.
I had faith once in God, but I don't think I talked to or seen god. If I did it was probobly my mind trying to justify my beliefs. But I did see a floating head in my room a few nights back. That was scary, to many ghosts in my house. Lucky for me their all pretty friendly.
