...is the Multi-Quote button.

Please use it to reply to multiple posts instead of replying to two or more posts individually.

If you have any questions on how to use the Multi-Quote button, please ask in this thread.

From this point forward, CGA General Discussion Moderators are allowed to merge multiple consecutive posts and give infractions to users repeatedly making multiple (three or more) consecutive posts.

Moderators of affiliate forums are welcome to adopt this rule as they see fit.

I like making the post individually..that way i can respond to each one in flow..using the multi-quote interrupts that thought train for me...

Ok boss

ok..how do you use it? I've tried and never gotten it to work right

Works fine for me

Didn't need to read it, but I'm sure its good.

Makes sense, stop a thought, restart on a clean page, a new thought.

I too have never got it to work and like the one idea per post.....

More importantly, it effectively limits the all important post count.

That is almost like asking if someone wants a drink then telling them to get it themselves.

We shall reinvent the wheel for all who ask.

I also found that the order you use the multiquote button determines the order of the multi quoted reply is.

I just used it in another thread using the info from the link Tek posted. Be encouraged, if i can figure it out, i think most should be able to work it out. i am not particularly tech savvy but i got there which out much fuss.

i'm not a fan of it either way..it interrupts my thoughtflow having to mess with combing the posts into one..

If that's the case, then use the "Quote" button to open up in new windows, and then merge them all into one rather than post each one individually.

Personally I don't mind multi posts. So long as it doesn't add up to 4+ it is perfectly fine (well provided they aren't spamming).

I try not to muti-post but I don't use muti-quote either because I cut and paste the parts of a post I am directly addressing. It makes it clearer to the reader just what I am responding to. I also assemble most of my posts in outlook express so I can run them through a spell check :p.

This may be a relevant question as it has to do with post economy. How do you use thumbnails? Is it like "bracket" thumbnail "bracket" image link url "bracket" /thumbnail "bracket" or what?

Hey, I never knew about that button. I've always done it the hard way of copy and paste plus {QUOTE}{/QUOTE} (substitute {'s with ['s)

That'll make things a lot easier. Thanks Tek.

If there is still confusion on how to use it, all you do is press that icon on all the posts you want to reply to, and then hit the Post Reply button. then PRESTO! all your quote belong to us!

Personally I would like 1 large post over 5 small ones. And idk about you guys, but it might be a good thing that it looses your train of thought. That means in order to respond to the post, you must re read it and take a fresh look upon it. And hopefully, if it was the case, you would have had time to cool down and potentially make a more reasonable post instead of a post that would get you in trouble. On the flip side, it also could allow for more intellectual posts. I find that in order to really get my point across I have to edit a couple times and I find that I want to add or remove stuff the more I think about it.

Short story: More time to think and make a smart post.

EDIT: Kudos to anyone that actually understands that glob of text up there.. right now I'm too tired to fix it. But you all know what I mean.. I hope..

Hey, if the tap's flowing and your legs ain't broke, I don't see the problem.

EDIT: Just in case anyone mistakes my tone for hostility, please understand that I intended this as a playful response.

I see how to do it now. I think that education goes a lot further to solving this issue than making a rule....more of an etiquette thing that not all of us understand how to use. But....I always like learning something new. Thanks for the info Tek.

<hoping I don't get any reminders that I forgot to use it in the future>

My laziness trumps your "Good ole" back-woods English grammar and logic.

<hands Tek his glass>

:D

Anyway I always cut and paste the quotes I want to use and most of the time they end up being truncated to help me say things through the quote the original person did not necessarily say.

That last part is a joke, by the way.

I try not to use multiple post in direct succession, but I understand why people would, either to make a point or to make a point really stand out.

It doesn't bother me when people do it as long as they aren't spamming. (Except in the Redeemed forums...=P.)
Firefox, most webkit based browsers (safari, chrome) and iirc opera all offer text field spell checking.
Firefox's spell check is not nearly as good as Word's though. There is one word that I type all the time and I know it is correct, but it catches it anyway!

Craziness.

By the way, I don't have any problem with two, three, or more posts in a thread IF there is a reasonable delay (several hours, days, weeks, or months) between posts.

My NMI: Parity Check / Memory Parity Error thread is a good example of consecutive posts by the same author, but spaced out days or at least several hours with new information.
