John 1:3 14-15 GNB

"We know that we have left death and come into
life;we know it because we love others. Those who
do not love are still under the power of death. Those
who hate others are murderers, and you know that
murderers do not have eternal life in them."

What is your opinion on this verse?

To me this seems more like a Religious Discussion topic or even a Bible Study one not an advice one. I have moved it to Religious Discussion but it can be moved to Bible Study if you prefer. Blessings,"Angel"

I John 4: 7 & 8 carries this concept further:

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God: and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
He that loveth not knoweth not God: for God is love.

Plain and simply put, God is Love and those who are His will bear Love as a part of the fruit of the Spirit. I think it is a hurtful shame to the cause of Christ when we do not show the sacrificial, go the second mile, putting others first, seeing through loving eyes that cover a multitude of sins, Love of Jesus. There is a chorus that states, "They shall know we are Christians by our love." If we do not have Love, we are only giving Christianity lip service and must need make certain that we have accepted Christ as our Saviour.

i believe it also means, a christian cannot harbor hate, how can we love the Father but hate our neighbor?

I prefer it in religious discussion, thanks. :)

Hate is human. I know of no Human being who does not feel hate - even if he only hates concepts like Evil and Injustice. Judging by the behaviour we've witnessed over Iraq, there is no shortage of hate - even on the right side of the conflict.

If you limit your associates to those who know no hate, you will truly walk alone. Even your own company will be abhorrent to you!

Pr 6:16 | These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.

The things which the Lord hates are all in disobedience to His ten commandments.

Deu. 6:4-5 | "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength."

2 John 1:6 | This is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, that as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.

The Lord hates the breaking of His commands, we are not to break them but to love God, therefore we are to love God by keeping His commands.

(NKJV) "We know that we have passed from death to life because we love the brethren. Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him."

Notice that it is not merely "others" we love, but the Christian brethren. They will know we are christians by our self sacrifice and unity in the church. A strong church family is more attractive to unbelievers than a broken evangelistic one.

Yet even if we love to the fullest:

1 John 3:13 | Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.

John 15:19 | "If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

How does the world hate Christians?

After hundreds of years in a world dominating hegemony you are beginning to see some balance, is all. Such a situation couldn't last - it was bound to break down, we're simply returning to the natural state of things.

To love, not to hate, hate bring , thievery, Destruction, death. Love brings forgiveness, restoration, unity.

This verse is just another edification of the Greatest commandment Luke 10:27
n27He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'[a]; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

IMHO the verse is here; to inform us that hate will trap us, as quickly as any evil, and to hate is to murder.

We are to choose Love, because love after all is a choice. And it is the greatest commandment.
