The Hobbit

Legacy of Elijah [LoE] - Proud Grandfather
The Hobbit was great - don't listen to any of the negative reviews.

I read the book again over Thanksgiving so it was fresh in my mind. NO SPOILERS - it was close enough to the book to still be the Hobbit - the things they added or left out just made for a good action packed movie, not a children's book.

Added bonuses - a poster saying we went to the 12:01 showing - a nine minute preview to the Star Trek movie coming out in the spring - and I got to see it with family and friends. All-in-all...priceless.

Going to go see it again with a church group on Sunday.

I saw it last night. What can I say, the movie was very good, pretty much what you would imagine. The sets, costumes and makeup were what you would expect from Weta Workshop. As stated, the story follows Tolkien's pretty closely. However, I tend to be a purest and some of the additions (not going to spoil anything) distracted me from the movie. There is one thread in the plot which is completely extraneous and superfluous IMHO. Mind you, I've never read Christopher Tolkein's additional work in expanding the Middle Earth story. If those additions were in J.R.R. Tolkein's notes, that would pacify me some.

I still strongly recommend it and those who are not as familiar with the works will no be distracted.

Again, no spoiler - many of the additions were from the additional writings. Some were not - but I could understand why they put them in - trying to link three films together Z(e.g. giving the Orcs a leader should come into play in the third movie).

We took about twenty people to see it this afternoon - it was more fun the second time. Saw and heard a bunch of stuff I didn't quite get in the first viewing.

it was good for what it was a lead into the next movies but I thought it was kinda slow moving and not enough action but it wasn't ment to have a lot of action just the lead in for the rest of the movies. and it may have been better if I didn't have to go to the bathroom through the whole movie and the seats at my theater suck can't wait till it comes out on DVD and I can watch it on my buddies 73 inch tv in comfortable chairs cheaper food etc. and not annoying teenagers who think its cool to comment on everything that happened in the movie but over all I can't complain about the movie just the environment I watched it in. :)

It was a good movie. I was sitting in the worst possible seat (The very front row on the very end) but it was good nonetheless.

Dude, that was one of the worst run-on sentences I've read in a while (since I was a college teacher). If you've read the book, it takes a little bit to get started too. Jackson actually got the action going earlier in the movie than the book does. Personally, I agree it was a little slow, but I didn't have a problem with that.
