The fig tree.

You read about this in the Bible?

Jesus was hungry and was looking for figs and didnt find any
and cursed the fig tree.

Is it saying that Christians should have the fruit of the Holy spirit?

What are your thoughts?

I'm pretty sure He saw a fig tree that wasn't producing any fruit. Then he burned it...

Or am I a bit rusty?

And I'm betting this gets moved to religious discussion in T-5... 4.... 3....

Mod: please move to RD/What does the Bible say about....

Also, we're referencing Luke 13:6-9 and Mark 11:13-14.

Anyway... it's not just that Jesus was hungry, it's that the tree had leaves and should have been producing fruit since it had those leaves. Jesus then cursed the tree for it's apparent deception. It serves as a warning for us that lying, despite how apparently insignficant the lie seems to be... is still very serious.

From my study Bible....
(11:13-14)Why was Jesus angry at a tree?
The problem may have been that the fig tree had leaves but no fruit, like a person who promises to do good but does not. Though it was not the season for figs, neither was it the season for leaves. Since this tree had produced its leaves, one could expect that it had also produced figs.

Jesus' anger can be viewed as a vivid object lesson. Fig trees often stood for the nation of Israel (Micah :1-6; Jer. 8:13). So the story of the unproductive fig tree (also in Luke 13:6-9) and the incident both convey the same lesson: Israel will be judged for its spiritual unfruitfulness unless it repents and acknowledges Jesus as the true Messiah.

Before the thread gets banished...

Is this story literal or figurative? Did it actually happen or is it simply a parable?

It's immediately preceded by a narrative of things Jesus actually did (specifically overturning the moneychanger's tables in the temple), and there is the connective phrase "Early the next morning" in the preceding verse which would indicate that we're still talking about Jesus. It most definitely actually happened.
