Okay, I'm going to try hosting a Terraria server. I can't find info on how much upload bandwidth it needs, so this is an experiment. Let's see how many people I can support at once and work out any bugs regarding server set-up. Edit: Server set-up was a breeze.

The IP and password are in the attachment, since I think only registered users can see those.

Let me know what you discover on here. Oh, and please post here with your character name. :) It's nice to put a name to a.. um... an avatar.

Edit: So far we have a had three users online at once. Nobody complained about lag. I will leave this up 24/7 for a while, just to see how much use it gets. So, I guess this could be the unofficial CGA Terraria Server.

Well the server worked great...although I came in at night time unprepared LOL needless to say some eyes got me :)
 
Haha. I met a similar fate... I had myself walled in a little room in the ... apartment complex? Anyway, apparently there was a vulnerability somewhere, because I came back to the server with all the chat lines filled with "Gimli was slain..." and several zombies bouncing on my latest corpse. Good thing there is no penalty aside from money (which I barely have at this point)!

I realized after asking that I neglected to follow through, so I should tell everyone my character is "Gimli." I just made a new one for this server, to start over.
 
I am going to get a bit farther in my single player before joining you guys. Looking forward to it.
Off to mine some ore and hunt down a skeleton with a hook...I want my grappling hook!
 
My son would like to join in sometime. He's played on TOJ Minecraft Server but loves this game now.

His character is Catakou.
 
Hey Abea! Sure, send Catakou in! That'd be very cool. :) P.S. I added some gravel to the temple floor recently.

Anyway, everyone, I'll leave the Terraria server up 24/7 for a while. We'll see what happens. I hope it will be a fun place!

*takes second glance at Josh2415* :eek: It's you Lost! Didn't realize that. Thanks for working on the temple. Sure hope you aren't throwing Minecraft over for Terraria - seems to be the trend. :(
 
You know I am curious about Minecraft too...both games seem to have different aspects that are focused on more than in the other. :)
 
I think we need to make an OFFICIAL TOJ server, because you can play a LARGE amount of people on one server. Some rumors were you could only do 8 people at a time on a server, but that is not the case.

The difference between official and unofficial Tribe of Judah servers is that funding for unofficial ToJ servers is not handled by our Accounts Manager. If server hosting companies offer Terraria servers AND if ToJ members are willing to cover the monthly cost of a Terraria server, we can have an official server. Otherwise, anything hosted would be unofficial.
 
Yep, server was down. Some storms went through knocking power lines down all over the county, and we lost power until this morning. The server's back up now!
 
Okay, new IP (dynamic address): 76.229.209.227
Same password, same port. I forgot the power outage would change the address.
I don't know if Terraria does DNS lookups to work with dyndns.org. I'll have to look into this so you guys don't have to keep checking for new addresses.
 
Sorry about anyone trying to log in last night... My wife saw that my computer was on so she turned it off for me. She meant well! :D
I informed her this morning that I'm running the game server from it, so now that won't happen again.
