ok here goes;

If you had $170.00 to buy a new video card (PCI Express 2.0)
to be run by a 630 Watt Power supply what would be the best bang for your buck.
and what site/store would you buy it from.

feel free to post a link so i can view the card and see how it would run GW2.
right now i am getting 37 fps on medium

i am looking to get either higher fps or be able to run on high settings

look forward to your advice

I got this for $140. Came down to $120 after rebate. Love the card. Seemed to be the best bang for the buck when I bought it. Then again, my price range didn't reach to $170, so you may find something a little better up there. :D

Thanks for letting me know but i have a few questions before i could buy it;

1: will a PCI Express 3.0 x16 card run on my PCI express 2.0 x16 slot in my motherboard?
2: will my 630 watt power supply be able to run it?

Yes and yes. Last I checked, PCIE 3.0 cards run in PCIE 2.0 slotted mobos, just not at their maximum potential. Even if I'm mistaken in understanding that to be the general rule of thumb, I can say that this card works just fine in my PCIE 2.0-equipped mobo.

Additionally, that particular card only requires a 400w PSU, I believe. Its relatively low power requirement was a major factor in why I chose that particular model of the 650Ti. It runs just fine in my machine with its 400/450w PSU. (My memory isn't up to full functionality yet this morning after a night of particularly subpar sleep. Sorry for the lack of absolute certainty.) You should definitely be good to go. ^_^

I recently bought a laptop with a GTX 675M, and run GW @ full settings (I think I have 1 or 2 things turned down 1 notch) at a solid 60fps (outside of LA). The desktop card Kendrik is linking to you has better benchmarks.

Just to tether expectations, though...be aware GW2 is a cpu-intensive game as well, so you might not see its full potential if you don't have a good processor. I'm running an i7. But this card will definitely do what you want...and even has potential to do more should you need to upgrade your mobo/cpu later.

thanks
the processor im running is an AMD Athlon II x3 450 Triple Core 3.2GHz which i thought was epic for the $70 i paid for it
do think it will be sufficient?

thanks so much for the info..that video card is rated #9 for GW2 (10 being best i assume)
my current card geforce 8800 gt alpha dog 512mb is rated a #6 so im hoping for a boost in game performance

The gtx 570 is one of the best pci-e 2.0x16 cards you can get, it'll run you around 220$ if you can spring the extra cash that's what i'd go for. If you wanted to later you could even upgrade your cpu and get the max out of your pci-e 2.0 mobo with the 570. The 650 will definitely run gw2 with no probs but the 570 and maybe even the 560 will out preform it @pci-e 2.0. General rule of thimb with nvidia is the 5 in 570 denotes the generation of the card while the 7 in 570 denotes the grade of the components. Even though the 650 is a newer generation the 570 is a more powerful card. The 560 is around 170$ ish, and the 470 may be another option. (the 4 series where not pci 2.0 and good luck finding a 470 lol) The 5th generation cards 560 and above where the top of the top for pci-e 2.0x16(topping with the 590 which is hard to find and around 500$).

That 7850 is a great card, I highly recommend it. It is vastly superior then the 650ti and drivers are not an issue anymore.

wow that is a great card..if i can talk my wife into it (cause the tax returns is both of ours) then i will definately get this one

Are you set on NVidia?

You can get a Radeon 7850 for about the same price. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Junction&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

I'm no expert, but from what I can tell it's a more powerful card. Maybe someone who knows these things better than I can chime in on whether that's true or not.

very nice...thanks for suggesting it..i would have never known it even existed lol
hope your family is doing well..they have been kept daily in prayer and i know GOD can do anything but fail

just saw on the newegg site someone says the fan cowl dips low and will not go into the slot all the way cause it hits the PCI slot beside it..did you have that issue at all?
i only have one PCI-E slot for a card and the regular PCI is right beside it

Thanks. We are doing well. Having some difficulties with my son, as he seems to be on an emotional roller coaster at the moment, but we're working through it.

You and your family continue to be in my prayers as well.

Re: Video Card - Got my new rig built, and I thought GW2 was pretty on low settings. On high settings it's like I'm exploring the game all over again. It's amazing. Also, I always thought human toons looked inferior to other races. The others seemed so detailed, and humans seemed kind of bland, plastic doll-like. I guess there's just a lot invested in their textures, because with all the settings at high (high rez textures setting, I'm guessing?) they look really good.

Re: Family - Yes. I have to pray a lot for grace. This is a lot for a six-year old to go through! He and I are bumping heads a lot, and apologizing a lot. I trust that God is using this to make our relationship even stronger. How is your father-in-law doing with his recovery? And your wife with the job?
