Teamspeak server

Around mid-end June 2006, I will no longer be able to host the teamspeak2 server for cga/toj.

Why?

Summer gets hot, I'm not comftorable running a mid 2ghz p4 computer with tripple hard drives 24/7, due to heat. Also electricity prices jump during summer. So during I will only be turning on my server computer for my network file usage. I will have another computer running 24/7, but that will be my linux firewall server, which i'm building in the next month that runs cool/quiet/low power.

Myself and tek7 are looking for someone else to host, and i wont complain if its turned over before june.

Requirements to run a TS2 soon to be TS3 server:
-a computer that runs 24/7 and is hardly shutdown or rebooted and connected up to the interent all the time.
-Port forwarding capabilities for multiple ranges. Must have a minimum of 2 ports open (8767 UDP, anyport TCP for ts tracker). If you dont know what UDP or TCP are, stop reading :p
-350mhz cpu or higher, 128 ram or better, hard drive space depends on what operating system it runs on. If windows a 4gig hard drive or bigger, if linux, with minimal install, 1.5gig hard drive.
-Here is the biggy 768kbit upload internet line or better, dedicated for the most part
-Cant be uploading or running Bittorrent all the time, it will lag out and disconnect people from teamspeak. You have to be couteous of ts people, I'm careful when uploading and downloading things so I dont lag out TS. Expect your games to lag out around 25 people on, on a 768kbit lines, while you are playing.
-External IP address must be static or a domain (such as dyndns.org, free home domain name service, DNS, setup in a router or DHCP computer)
-Must have some kind of QOS (quality of service) scheduler on and confihured for upload speeds, so TS port gets bandwidth priority over your personal gaming, more than once I've had to stop playing a online game because of lag from server being quite full.
-I have all the config files for turning it over, which includes the user data base, server configs and logs. TS2 uses its own self dependent sql database system.
-Currently, bandwidth usage is about 5gigs of upload a month, maybe more.
-If World of Warcraft come back to the TS server, double bandwidth usage and internet upload line.
-Must have some experience in running a TS server either personal or clan based.
-optional, UPS battery backup to keep server going during power outages.
-Server computer cannot be your computer/s you play on or use

This is nothing to take lightly, running a TS server takes dedication and resources, we wont accept anyone who wants to run it for just the sake of running it or cause it would be cool or fun

*note: all bandwidth requirements are calculated on the 9.3kbit voice speedx codec*

For me, everything seems fine except for my upload speed. I think I only have a 256 Kb (kilobyte) upload. =(

I would do it but my connection seems to cut out for a few seconds everyday. I think it's my ISP's way of thwarting someone running a dedicated server.

Would be funny if I brought you my router or equivalent...:D

Though, it's a gaming router, not a server router.

Summer gets hot, I'm not comftorable running a mid 2ghz p4 computer with tripple hard drives 24/7, due to heat. Also electricity prices jump during summer.

Wow, did a search, a grand for a portable generator, half a grand for a portable cooling fan.

FYI, someone showed me I can create a sub domain and point it towards an ip.

ts.compmil.com is the new ts address, dont need port because its default. If ther person who takes it over has a mostly static ip, then they dont need DNS feature in router or dhcp server.

We do have a backup host if no one comes forward who is willing and meet all the requirements. If someone rents/owns a dedicated server, thats better than running it out of a home.

I am building an AMD 1600+ XP server (nothing big, just a 30GB HDD and 512MB PC2100) for a private WoW server. But since I'm quitting WoW, it should be available for use this summer.

My upload is only 500 kbps officially, but I usually get around the cable company's caps, so it will be 500kbps at the worst. It's on a gigabit switch and router, so the only slowdown is at the ISP level.

I'll try and get it formatted and up this week (waiting on a replacement power supply from Newegg) and I'll contact you Talon about trying it out. If it lags me out too bad while gaming, I'll just move my laptop over to the neighbor's wifi network.

A host has been found. The Christian Crew has graciously offered to host our 35 slot TS2 server for free. It will be hosted on one of thier computers they own that is hosted in a data center in Texas. We can use max bandwidth codecs if we want but 35 slots is locked.

The agreement is that I help co-admin thier game/voip servers in running and maintaining with thier server guy: Agent. Last week or so I've spend many hours helping out over there and getting Agent setup with a few tips and tricks in running thier boxes.

Now I can downgrade my internet speeds sooner because of financial issues.

BTW: if you have ts.compmil.com in your server address bar it wont be a problem, I will switch the DNS to the new IP when its up. Old server will stay online for about a week with all user accounts intact but all channels deleted and redirect info.

Server will be up and running later on tonight/tomorrow morning. ts.compmil.com will be updated and refreshed at same time so you can connect without changing any info.

New server is up. In the old server compmil.dyndns.org, I have deleted all channels, and edited the lobby to say "got ts.compmil.com New Server". All user accounts are intact on both servers.

So if you connect to a TS server with no channels, update the "server address" box with "ts.compmil.com".
