And not only that, but we also rejoice in our afflictions, because we know that affliction produces endurance, endurance produces proven character, and proven character produces hope.

No matter how we try to deny or ignore this simple truth, suffering is part of life. But for the Christian, the afflictions we face for Christ are leading toward a greater goal.

It is inevitable that we will suffer in life, regardless of promises from "inspirational speakers" to the contrary. We can turn that inevitable suffering into endurance, proven character, and hope, by God's grace.
