Who is wise and has understanding among you? He should show his works by good conduct with wisdom’s gentleness.
James 3:13, HCSB

Far too often, Christians rush to point out an error or insert themselves into a conversation when their knowledge was not requested. It's so easy to rush to be "right" and, in the process, lose sight of wisdom in the pursuit of displaying our intellect.

James reminds us what understanding and wisdom really looks like: Good conduct and gentleness. I know I have a tendency to "blurt out the answers," so to speak, and this verse is especially challenging for me. Nevertheless, it's also encouraging in that it shows that gentleness is better proof of wisdom than our own vain ambitions. The difficulty lies in staying quiet a few moments longer to submit to wisdom's direction. :)
