And the Lord said, ‘Who will entice Ahab to march up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ So one was saying this and another was saying that.

“Then a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord, and said, ‘I will entice him.’

“The Lord asked him, ‘How?’

“He said, ‘I will go and become a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’

“Then He said, ‘You will certainly entice him and prevail. Go and do that.’

“You see, the Lord has put a lying spirit into the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the Lord has pronounced disaster against you.”
1 Kings 22:20-23, HCSB

This passage definitely prompted me to raise an eyebrow this week. I understand that God does not lie, but all Scripture is God-breathed and does not contradict itself.

Rather than offer an explanation of my own, I encourage you to read this article on the Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry site.

Furthermore, I encourage anyone who believes they may have stumbled on a possible contradiction in Scripture to press on and seek answers. You'll find that passages that seem contradictory at first lead to sensible explanations with proper study, even when that study is challenging.

A nice treatment of a difficult passage. Take the time to read the brief article. Thanks, Tek.
