I often find myself reading Scripture and come across a verse that feels as though I've been punched in the gut. The experience is unpleasant, but ultimately edifying and helpful.
This is one such verse. I tend toward isolating myself from others, except when I can interact with others on my own terms. I don't assume this tendency is common, though I would venture to guess that there are at least a few others in this online community with the same propensity.
Yes, we must take care with whom we spend our time. The Bible, and Proverbs especially, is packed with wisdom on whom we should draw near to and whom we should avoid. But we were made for fellowship with others just as we were made for fellowship with God. It is vital we neglect neither.
For those not already involved in a local church, I implore you to find a church home and get involved. The process is very likely to be awkward and unpleasant at times, but ultimately rewarding as you seek to obey God's instruction to build godly relationships with other believers. You'll discover opportunities to bless others and to be blessed and, most importantly, you'll be in obedience to God's Word.
For those already involved in a local church, "bloom where you're planted" unless God clearly guides you to leave. Just as visiting a new church can be an awkward experience, developing deeper relationships with fellow believers can often be a challenge.
And for you extroverts out there, well, I can't relate, but God loves you, too, so show some love to an introvert (but don't scare them off!
