Ecclesiastes 7:2, HCSBIt is better to go to a house of mourning
than to go to a house of feasting,
since that is the end of all mankind,
and the living should take it to heart.
As a person who tends to think things through to their logical conclusion (sometimes to a fault), this verse is oddly comforting. While the author isn't saying fun is bad, he is saying it's important to consider our choices in the context of mortality. If we die tomorrow, does what we did today mean anything?
Now that train of thought can lead to "paralysis by analysis" and that's certainly not my goal in writing this. But I believe it is important that we're not swept along with the culture's current and lose sight of mortality and eternity.
It may seem somewhat contradictory to post commentary on this verse on a forum for Christian gamers, but I believe it makes perfect sense. Gaming is a hobby and a means by which to connect with other people. Just as it can be beneficial to take time out to read a good book, it can be beneficial to play a good game. Keeping our own mortality in mind (while not fixating on the inevitability of death) helps us check and re-check our priorities daily.
