Suggestions for inexpensive printer?

Now that my Canon i450 is dying, I need to find a new printer. I don't want to print photos, I won't be using color often, and there may be long spells (weeks at a time) when I don't print anything.

Can anyone recommend an inexpensive, but quality, printer that uses inexpensive, but quality, ink cartridges?

Oh, and no suggestions for HP printers, please.

lexmark is decent quality, also check surpluses for older HP (i know but older = cool) the ones that use toner cartridges do like..... 5000 sheets of paper before dieing....

Agreed, Lexmark isn't good at all... at least in my experience.

well if you get an hp printer i can give you a whloe lot of ink cartige's
i have more than 20 of the (44, 56, 57,78)

We ended up buying the HP PSC (Printer/Scanner/Copier) 1410 after reading reviews on newegg.

hmm.. my Lexmark X7170ve

works fine.. no problems for me...
