Steam = evil?

Okay, I admit, I'm a n00b, and I really don't know what's going on. . . but I have a question:  Everyone always complains about Steam and CS 1.6 and everything. . . I haven't had a single problem with it yet.  In fact, I love it!  I tried CS about a year ago, and it was buggy and it wouldn't work well with my computer and it was hard to find servers on GameSpy that were quality and everything - I just abandoned it.  But now, I downloaded Steam for it and gave it another try, and I love it!  Steam seems to pull everything together for me, uniting the game with the servers and a friends list seamlessly.  It's been great so far!

Now, with everyone complaining about it like they do, I know there MUST be something wrong with it.  Tell me the kinds of problems you've been having with it, because I'm curious as to why everyone seems to hate it. . .

Yeah i'm in your shoes Chaoswraith.

For alot of people, most of the problems they used to have with Steam have been patched. I know there was a problem with the retail version not being compatable (somewhat) back when it first came out.

And then there was always your occasional crash bugs, but if you reinstall Steam it goes away.

So if Steam works for you, then great. And your also not the only one who its ever worked for

If you have a gigahertz computer, then yes, you should love it that the fact you don't get any problems.

But on the other hand with computer using minium requirements (like me), I hate steam's lame errors.

So, the exact opposite for me, in CS 1.5, I had a few errors. GameSpy worked great for me cause using CS search server took soo long, then kicked me out for using their wrong version, argh.

I seem the only one that official hates steam, I even sign up for a penition for "steam's unstabilty." I was #131, heh. Maily, every error I get, is from their 'so called' updates they 'sort of' fixed.
 
Okay, you've got me there. . . here I was thinking my computer was old and ancient and wishing I had a new one, but at least I'm faring better than you are. I've got a 1 ghz laptop that I play CS on. I was sad because I could only play CS in 640x480, and I can't even turn it up to 32-bit color. I have been humbled, my friend, humbled.
 
for me if i get an IM or somethin else happens to my desktop sides CS then is screws up steam and i cant see any lettering or sprays or even where the heck im going so i have to restart my steam
 
I had problems that directly related to my gimped gf4mx440 after I replaced it(with my older gf2 mx400) I stopped getting error messages in game and cs ran smoother and at a higher fps. It used to give me an read memory error.
 
NO problems on my end...try keeping your Windows and hardware updated; like your sound and video drivers. That should help a lot. My Steam is working great.
 
My only steam problems these days invovle my router/modem over heating. At this time I cannot connect to any server so I have to turn off my router/modem+computer for about 10min every 4-6days.
