Caffiene is also good for you. See this week's Time article. It wards off brain cancer, Parkinson's disease, and enables more efficient use of concentration and intelligence faculties. The only downside, besides the "low" that follows the "high," is that it temporarily raises your blood pressure slightly, but if you don't already have high blood pressure it's generally nothing to worry about.

It also helps relieve headaches. A little caffeine everyday shouldn't hurt but if you have too much, it can start to have negative effects. Usually when you have too much is when you are pushing your body too hard. Your body needs rest everyday. I've seen a couple of reports over the last year of Korean gamers dieing because they kept taking caffeinated energy drinks to stay awake for long gaming sessions. Please don't try to follow their example. :)

My step-dad is 60 and says he hasn't consumed much caffine. He doesn't have any of those. O_o

I quit drinking caffine 4-5 months ago. I can't remember what a headache feels like :P

So just drink one before you need to be smart? :)

Did a bit of looking around. http://www.cspinet.org/nah/caffeine/good_bad.htm

Caffeine can help headaches, both in combination with a pain reliever and by itself.

Does it make you smarter?
“Caffeine speeds up reaction time and improves automatic processing skills like doing arithmetic problems and proofreading. But for more complicated tasks, like complex word problems, caffeine has also been shown to worsen performance.”

So it's a no before the SAT or GRE. ;)

As far as athletic performance, it has been shown to be of some mild benefit to professional-level athletes. But there's apparently no real evidence it helps the amateur.

As for me, I like a little caffeine!

cafine always makes me not be able to think.........ya sure it supposed to make you smarter? i must be amune to it or something.

Not that this proves anything, but I always took plenty of caffiene before any standardized test (SAT, ACT, etc), and because of my scores (and an essay that I wrote, but it was cake) I am a National Merit Scholar. My school made me take a practice PSAT before the real one junior year, and I didn't caffienate myself for it. I didn't score as well on the practice, and I could tell that the caffiene was improving my concentration.

I have caffeine gum when i really need it... heh. 2 pieces = 1 cup.

but if you go through one pack faster than 3 weeks, using too much. jolt gum. lol.

haven't used one in like 1 month. don't want to. now my sched is A LOT less busy. :D
