Spiral Knights

Prf. Jennings from Christian Crew started a guild in Spiral Knights named Questors of Cradle. I joined the guild, Prf. Jennings granted me guild invite privileges, and I've invited a few members from ToJ (including The Mighty Gerbil, Keerosene, Gator Missile, and Kidan) to join the guild. So far, we're up to 20 guild members.

My character name in Spiral Knights is Whut, so if you play Spiral Knights and want to play with some super-cool CC and ToJ guys, contact me in-game and I'll send you a guild invite. If you're already friends with me on Steam, you'll show up as a friend in Spiral Knights automatically.

Ok, got Spiral Knights going and at lvl 6 now. FUN game. Kyrelle is my name. Orry is playing, too, but I forgot his name /doh

Writing down your names here, and will add you soon. We would love to join the guild.

I've been trying to learn the game and a couple things I'd like to mention are...

1. I've yet to verify it all personally but when you are down in one of the arcade's mazes (gate maps) some of the floors have alternate levels that cycle every 10-15 minutes (while others have ??? marks keeping you from telling). This means you can wait for an elevator to cycle on that level to a more profitable one, like the arena ones. You can check out what level possibilities a gate has prior to going on the arcade console for it and also within the gate map itself under an option in the upper left. I'd post a link to a site explaining it but I haven't gone through it for content so Google "Spiral Knights Gate Maps and You" if you want more info.

2. I've been trying to establish a baseline for the price range CE (crystal energy) fluxes so I'd know when to buy and sell. When I first started it was 4100 crowns per 100 CE then it went down just under 3400 crowns and now, a week later it's back up to 4100 crowns. I've also heard it went down to 1500 crowns when it got added to Steam and was up as high as <gulp> 7000 crowns prior to that. Anyway buy/sell when you think best.

EDIT: Just so you won't be surprised I am beginning my approach to disinterest now that I've got to tier two (I wanted to do that much at least). Free to play games always scale up resources needed drastically in later levels so the farther I go up the ladder the farther I go away from F2P games :p . Not quitting yet though...

Here's a screenshot of some of the Questors of Cradle guildies in our guild hall, taken earlier tonight.

I'll be able to log in any time after ~8:30 a.m. Central to craft my last remaining Tier 2 equipment piece (a shield) and be eligible to enter the next dungeon. (I need 50 Energy to craft the item; I logged off with 16.) :D

Cool! Hope to join you guys tonight.

I quit. I gave all my stuff to Arlyn and deleted my character. Taking too much time for not any fun. Co-op has a tiny bit of potential but considering I solo most stuff better (kite-ing) by the nature of the game it's got a long way to go. With a new game I always ask myself would I rather be playing this or TF2 and it failed the test. I would have liked something else to play for variety but Spiral Knights wasn't it. My TF2 maps won't build themselves either :p .

Normally, I'd say, "No~! Come back and play co-op runs for fun!" But then I remember that koth_war-house is an awesome TF2 map and I selfishly want you to finish work on it (and cp_hot_rocket). :D

As for me, I'm hoping to run some tier 2 dungeons soon. SK is a perfect "off game" from the regular slate of FPS and RTS games. I know SK is a poor substitute for a Soma Bringer sequel or spiritual successor (most anything would be; SB is a hard act to follow), but I <3 4-player online co-op dungeon crawling. (My wrists don't care much for it, though, which is why I only play SK in short bursts.)

I might get Torchlight 2 to play with you guys when it comes out. That's if you guys end up playing it. I think it will last longer in terms of replay value.

If you can be reasonable sure you are going to be playing for a while hit Arlyn up for the uber sword I made just before I quit (though he probably already used it as I told him to do with it as he liked). Just before I was going to quit I randomly spent my energy on crafting and got a sword that has arguably the second best UV(unique variant) you could get on it in the game. It was a Brandish with a high speed attack bonus (not like one of the lame ones like good against this enemy type etc.). UV bonuses can be carried over to any of the higher tier weapons you make out of it so it's a good thing all the way to end game. I am guessing from the AH I probably could of sold it for between 50,000 and 100,000 crowns at least. The ratings go low, medium, high and very high on weapons (higher on armor). It was like the devil was tempting me to stay giving me almost exactly what I wanted on the first attempt XD . Regardless I don't think even the maximum bonuses are that big a difference from the stock stats as mine only went up a half a notch on it's bar stats.

Aye, Torchlight II should be a one-time purchase (a product rather than a "service" like SK) and looks to be a solid game. The only thing that would keep me from buying the PC version (well, besides a high launch price point) is a PSN/PS3 version.

I <3 dungeon crawlers, but PC dungeon crawlers are a beast on my wrists. I don't call Diablo "carpal tunnel syndrome waiting to happen" without reason. Unfortunately, Torchlight 1 wasn't any better than Diablo in that respect. If I can use a PS3 controller, it will reduce the strain on my wrist and let me play for longer than 15-30 minutes without wrist pain.

Of course, it would also be nice to be able to play co-op with my wife with only one copy of the game.

Today's Steam Summer Camp batch of achievements features Spiral Knights:
Star-Spangled Bomber - Get Cracking! Add the Firecracker bomb to your arsenal
I bought a Firecracker from the auction house for 999 crowns and passed it to Gator Missile, who then passed it on to another guildie. Receiving the Firecracker in a trade DOES unlock the achievement.

If you're a member of Questors of Cradle or a trusted friend of someone who is, you might try logging on and seeing who currently has "the guild Firecracker." The easiest way to set up a trade is just to meet in the guildhall and right click on the character you wish to trade with.

If the Firecracker finds its way back to me after everyone who wants the achievement has gotten it, great. If not, oh well. A thousand crowns isn't that big a deal.
