Song parody: Waiting on the World to Change

Anyone want to write a song parody? I have an itch to write a parody of John Mayer's Waiting on the World to Change and thought others might have songs they'd like to parody.

I like most of John Mayer's stuff, but the "Let's just lay down and quit since we can't do anything that will show immediate results in federal government" message of Waiting on the World to Change is pretty weak. The song is essentially advocating sticking our heads in the sand while the world falls apart around us, so let's make fun of it!

Here are the original lyrics:
Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could

Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it

So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change

Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

That's why we're waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's not that we don't care,
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

And we're still waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change
Let's turn this into a fun (but not rude, crude, or mean) exercise. :)

I have no idea whether this was posted with the group's permission, but it's there. DISCLAIMER: Viewing the above link will expose you to the usual rude/crude/inappropriate advertisements and comments which are synonymous with YouTube. If you're not allowed to view that stuff, please don't.

[EDIT: I found a nice 'parody' of the above video here. If anybody deserves to lament about having to wait for the world to change, it is our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. As you might expect, the comments left about this video are horrendous, so viewer beware.]

Ouch, scathing!

Er, yea. I fear that it might have been a bit mean-spirited. It certainly wasn't intended as an attack on the younger generation generally, or writers of the song - just at the general philosophy of whining, finger-pointing and passively hoping that somebody else is going to do something to make everything better. To me that philosophy is the very trademark of the Adversary, who desires nothing more than for the human race to reach the collective conclusion that we should all mind our own business and content ourselves with the blind hope that somebody, somewhere will do something to make everything better, someday. Superman, maybe? Or Space Aliens? (Now, that is faith which far surpasses any I might muster). The philosophy is certainly present in the church as well - the world is ending soon anyway, so why bother to do anything to counter evil and spread the light of the Lord? Well, maybe all of this is more than a bit defensive - if my parody is mean-spirited, it doesn't have a place here.

I like my social commentary a touch caustic (A Modest Proposal is one of my favorite essays), so I rather liked it. I printed out a copy for myself, but I'll keep it to myself since you were concerned about the spirit of the post, dorkelf.
