Well Tek I thought I might start this thread and I hope you don't mind cause I love poems.

Anyway if anyone has a poem they wrote or even like by another person please share it with us.
And if you have more than one just post one at a time.

Here goes my first one:

Unknown title

O you of little faith,
God has not failed you yet!
When all looks dark and gloomy,
You do so soon forget-

Forget that He has led you,
And gently cleared your way;
On clouds has poured His sunshine,
And turned your night to day.

And if He's helped you to this point,
He will not fail you now;
How it must wound His loving heart
To see your anxious brow!

Oh! doubt not any longer,
To Him commit your way,
Whom in the past you trusted,
And is just the same today.

Here goes nothin.

They tell me I must bruise
The rose's leaf,
Ere I can keep and use
Its fragrance brief.

They tell me I must break
The skylark's heart,
Ere her cage song will make
The silence start.

They tell me love must bleed,
And friendship weep,
Ere in my deepest need
I touch that deep.

Must it be always so
With precious things?
Must they be bruised and go
With beaten wings?

Ah, yes! by crushing days,
By caging nights, by scar
Of thorn and stony ways,
These blessings are!

the only poem i ever remember:

"One fine day in the middle of the night" (Journal Versions)

1. One fine day in the middle of the night,
2. Two dead boys got up to fight,
3. Back to back they faced each other,
4. Drew their swords and shot each other,

5. One was blind and the other couldn't, see
6. So they chose a dummy for a referee.
7. A blind man went to see fair play,
8. A dumb man went to shout "hooray!"

9. A paralysed donkey passing by,
10. Kicked the blind man in the eye,
11. Knocked him through a nine inch wall,
12. Into a dry ditch and drowned them all,

13. A deaf policeman heard the noise,
14. And came to arrest the two dead boys,
15. If you don't believe this story’s true,
16. Ask the blind man he saw it too!

I think I've recommended E.E. Cummings on these forums before. My favorite one of his, I cannot post here because it has a curse word in it, but he has many good ones, so I'll pick another. In fact, since they're short, I'll pick two.
Humanity i love you
because you would rather black the boots of
success than enquire whose soul dangles from his
watch-chain which would be embarrassing for both

parties and because you
unflinchingly applaud all
songs containing the words country home and
mother when sung at the old howard

Humanity i love you because
when you're hard up you pawn your
intelligence to buy a drink and when
you're flush pride keeps

you from the pawn shop and
because you are continually committing
nuisances but more
especially in your own house

Humanity i love you because you
are perpetually putting the secret of
life in your pants and forgetting
it's there and sitting down

on it
and because you are
forever making poems in the lap
of death Humanity

i hate you
when God decided to invent
everything he took one
breath bigger than a circus tent
and everything began

when man determined to destroy
himself he picked the was
of shall and finding only why
smashed it into because

Heres a good one I just found but I don't know who wrote it.

The Eye of the Storm

Fear not that the whirlwind will carry you hence,
Nor wait for its onslaught in breathless suspense,
Nor shrink from the blight of the terrible hail,
For there is a shelter, sunlighted and warm,
And faith sees her God through the eye of the storm.

The passionate tempest with rush and wild roar
And threatenings of evil may beat on the shore,
The waves may be mountains, the fields battle plains,
And the earth be immersed in a deluge of rains,
Yet, the soul, stayed on God, may sing bravely its psalm,
For the heart of the storm is the center of calm.

Let hope be not quenched in the blackness of night,
Though the cyclone awhile may have blotted the light,
For behind the great darkness the stars ever shine,
And the light of God's heavens, His love will make thine,
Let no gloom dim your eyes, but uplift them on high
To the face of your God and the blue of His sky.

The storm is your shelter from danger and sin,
And God Himself takes you for safety within;
The tempest with Him passes into deep calm,
And the roar of the winds is the sound of a psalm.
Be glad and serene when the tempest clouds form;
God smiles on His child in the eye of the storm.

1 of my favorite songs

Anne Murray - The Other Side Lyrics

Through each life time - run rivers to cross
What if there's no life line and you're sinking or lost
Just believe in your direction
Let your heart explore
Cause you can't reach new horizons
Standing on the shore
There are mountains - we need to climb
But the mountains standing in the way are only in our minds
And the risk of all
So just listen to the voice that says
I'll catch you if you fall
On the other side of doubt is faith
On the other side of pain lies strength
The journey may seem endless
And You know the road is rough
But on the other side of fear... is love
For such a long time I put my dreams aside
The tides of change felt dangerous
The mountains seemed too high
But my dreams were slowly fading
As time went quickly by
So I held me breath with every step
Never knowing I would find...
On the other side of doubt is faith
On the other side of pain lies strength
The journey may seem endless
And You know the road is rough
But on the other side of fear... is love.

keep in mind that I am a plumber and I have a disturbed mind lol j/k

Here I sat, same as ever
Took a dump, pulled the level
The toilet clogged, the water flowed
Look out world, it's the mother-load!!!

Oh man! LOL
:) Wash your hands but in your case wash your disturbed mind in the word of God. Lol That should do it.:)

So we're posting lyrics, eh? :D
They took all the trees, and put em in a tree museum
And they charged the people a dollar and a half to see them

Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you got till it's gone
They paved paradise, and put up a parking lot
Joni Mitchell, Big Yellow Taxi

I don't know what to say about it,
When all your ears re turned away,
But now's the time to look and look again at what you see,
Is that the way it ought to stay?
Led Zeppelin, That's the Way

You're taking steps that make you feel dizzy
Then you learn to like the way it feels
You hurt yourself, you hurt your lover, then you discover
What you thought was freedom is just greed
U2, Gone

When autumn comes, it doesnt ask.
It just walks in, where it left you last.
And you never know, when it starts
Until there's fog inside the glass around your summer heart
John Mayer, Something's Missing

But me and everybody's on the sad same team
And you can hear our sad brain screaming

Give us something familiar
Something similar
To what we know already
That will keep us steady
Steady
Steady going nowhere
Fiona Apple, Please Please Please

I go to the movies, and I go downtown
Somebody keep telling me,
don't hang around

It's been a long, long time coming
But I know a change gonna come
Oh yes it will

Then I go to my brother
I say brother help me please
But he winds up knocking me
Back down on my knees

There's been times that I thought
I wouldn't last for long
But now I think I'm able to carry on
It's been a long, long time coming
But I know a change is gonna come
Oh, yes it will
Sam Cooke, A Change Is Gonna Come

Network execs with naked ambitions
"Next week on FOX, watch lions eat Christians"
Weird Al, Couch Potato

The old man said to me,
"Long before these crowded streets
Here stood my dreaming tree."
Below it he would sit
For hours at a time
Now progress takes away
What forever took to find
And now he's falling hard
He feels the falling dark
How he longs to be
Beneath his dreaming tree
Dave Matthews Band, Dreaming Tree

What have I to offer
To a world in need?
Yet for some unknown reason
You have chosen me
Lord, You've set my journey
You've prepared the way
Still I'm desperate for the words to say
All I am is willing
All I have is in Your hands

Speak for me
This my plea
Say the words I can't express
Sing for me
A heavenly melody
That the people would be blessed
Speak for me
Jaci Velasquez, Speak For Me

Exposed beyond the shadows
You take the cup from me
Your dirt removes my blindness
Your pain becomes my peace
Jars of Clay, Frail

the truth is in
the proof is when
you hear your heart start asking,
"What´s my motivation?"
Newsboys, Shine

I want to preach the Word
they want massages
I check chapter and verse
they check their watches
I spy another yawn
I might as well be gone
let's stand and say "Amen"
some days I must admit
I still don't get this
could be it's time to quit
when days get like this
I slip into the night
then stumble towards the light
wake up and try again
Newsboys, When You Called My Name

Out among the free-range sheep
while the big birds sharpen their claws.
For a time we stuck with the shepherd
but you wouldn't play Santa Claus.

[...]
Newsboys, Lost the Plot

Do you really have a heart for the least of these
And understand that we really need to teach to these

Or keep living in a world where death is a fact
Little kids asking, "Why my daddy got to die like that"
Don't want to send my kids to school when they feel they got
To pack heat to survive the walk in the streets
Where young women aren't alive because they still believe the
Lies and never recognize who God made them inside
God help us if we don't help them find their way
God help us if we don't change our living today
God help us if we hide in our corner and ignore the cries of the
Street, do you hear what they say

God please help them make it through the thunder and the rain
God please send somebody to ease the pain
You know they need a way up out the game
I know You hear her God, her name is Sarah Jane
Out of Eden, Sarah Jane

When the hour is upon us
And our beauty surely gone
No you will not be forgotten
No you will not be alone

And when the day has all but ended
And our echo starts to fade
No you will not be alone then
And you will not be afraid
No you will not be afraid

When the fog has finally lifted
From my cold and tired brow
No I will not leave you crying
And I will not let you down
No I will not let you down
I will not let you down
Rob Thomas, Now Comes the Night

That's all for now. :D

I thought the "Yowch" was a reaction to the length of the post. :P

:) It was and also it was his "bite" for different songs as well. :)
Some lyrics in heavymetal I find can't hear the lyrics because the music is way to loud or that they tend to scream out the lyrics beyond comprehension. Thats not:cool: .

Eh? Heavy metal?

EDIT: If you're referring to the Led Zeppelin lyrics, the song That's the Way is actually more a cross between folk and country (think Peter Wolf). Though Zeppelin is known primarily for their hard rock anthems, they covered a wide range of musical styles, including jazz, blues, country, and folk. I strongly caution all parents to monitor their children's music selections while living at home. Zeppelin is one of rock's greatest bands, but some of their songs are not appropriate for younger listeners.

To minors living at home: Please don't buy a copy of any Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd albums and then tell your parents that the President of the Christian Gamers Alliance suggested that you listen to them. I didn't.

That being said, you won't find any profanity on any Zeppelin tracks. On a related note, I believe there's only one naughty word in Pink Floyd's entire discography, in the famous song, Money. And before anyone claims that Pink Floyd promoted drug use, remember that Comfortably Numb implied that drugs were in part responsible for Roger Walters' descent into madness.

Diverting even further from the original topic: Teenagers like to misinterpret Another Brick in the Wall as an anti-authority anthem, but those sections of The Wall are actually referring to the British education system of Walters' time and the physical and psychological abuse that students suffered at the hands of schoolteachers. Not being allowed to skateboard outside the school or play your iPod in class doesn't quite equate with the abuse Walters and his classmates suffered.

So when a high school student body selects Another Brick in the Wall as their senior song, you can almost guarantee that the students haven't listened through the entire The Wall album and they clearly don't understand the song's context.

Young children and teenagers should not listen to The Wall, just as they shouldn't watch The Passion of the Christ or Schindler's List until the parent believes the child is emotionally mature enough to do so.

No I'm not referring to LZ. I grew up with there music and I had all there albums. Many of those bands I don't listen to anymore because they remind me of my past before I came to Christ and I consider those songs not something I need to be reminded of my old ways gone by.
My favorite now of course is contemporary christian worship music/songs.

Heres a poem that puts the 2 (poem/song) together so to speak.

Don't let the song go out of your life
Although it sometimes will flow
In a minor strain; it will blend again
With the major tone you know.

Although shadows rise to obscure life's skies,
And hide for a time in the sun,
The sooner they'll lift and reveal the rift,
If you let the melody run.

Don't let the song go out of your life;
Though the voice may have lost its trill,
Though the quivering note may die in your throat,
Let it sing in your spirit still.

Don't let the song go out of your life;
Let it ring in your soul while here;
And when you go hence, it will follow you thence,
And live on in another sphere.

Song lyrics! This one's probably my favorite. It's in Spanish, and I caught most of the song the first time but I had to go to a translation for a few of the lines. I included it here for people who didn't have to take Spanish in high school. Even if you don't know Spanish, you should read the original, if only to gain an appreciation of the euphony of the original that is destroyed by translation.

Thievery Corporation & Verny Varela - Ambición Eterna
Amor, no tengas miedo, amor
La vida es dura pero no es cruel
No creas todo lo que tú ves
Que sólo miedo quieren meter

Mi amor me dice qué debo hacer
Muchas preguntas sin responder
La vida nos pone pruebas
Yo sólo se...

Todo es producto de un ambición
Que nunca se saciará

Y si las cosas van mal
No pierdas nunca tu fé

Muchas tragedias he visto ya
Y la verdad no aparece
¿Dónde estará?

Todo es producto de un ambición
Que nunca se saciará

Y si las cosas van mal
No pierdas nunca tu fé
Después de la tormenta viene la calma, tú ves...

Detrás de esa oscuridad
Siempre hay una claridad,
Esa luz de esperanza que siempre está

And a translation (from a website, but I modified it a bit to work better in English)...
Love, don't be afraid, Love
Life is tough but it isn't cruel
Don't believe everything you see
Because they only want to cause fear

My love says what to do
So many questions without answers
Life proves us
I only know...

Everything is the result of an ambition
That will never be satisfied

And if things go wrong
Don't ever lose your faith
After the storm comes the calm, you see

Behind that darkness
There's always a light
The light of hope that is always there

Don't ever let that uncalmness
Take away your dream, your freedom

Life must go on
What will it happen, only He knows

My love says change that channel
So many tragedies i have already seen
And truth does not appear
Where will it be?

Everything is the result of an ambition
That will never be satisfied

And if things go wrong
Don't ever lose your faith
After the storm comes the calm, you see

Behind that darkness
There's always a light
The light of hope that is always there

Is the midnight closing 'round you?
Are the shadows dark and long?
Ask Him to come close beside you,
And He'll give you a new, sweet song.

He'll give it and sing it with you;
And when weakness slows you down,
He'll take up the broken cadence,
And blend it with His own.

And many a heavenly singer
Among those sons of light,
Will say of His sweetest music,
"I learned it in the night."

And many a lovely anthem,
That fills the Father's home,
Sobbed out its first rehearsal,
In the shade of a darkened room.
