SecuROM attached to Borderlands retail release

If any of you are considering purchasing Borderlands, I recommend you purchase the Steam version since the retail version of Borderlands comes infected with SecuROM. I can't confirm with complete accuracy that the Steam version does not have SecuROM attached, but there is evidence that Steam users are in the clear.

The issue is irrelevant to me since my gaming budget is effectively nil while I'm unemployed, but Borderlands caught my interest and I'd be interested in buying a DRM-free version of the game once I have the funds and the game goes on a good sale.

Background processes that slow down your computer, rootkits, blocking other applications it deems "unsafe," general sleeze, etc.

SecuROM's got a long reputation of acting more like malware than copy-protection software. :|

It is almost funny how you can replace SecuROM with Norton... Except it has some validity for blocking genuine malware.
 
I love performing a PC Tuneup on a machine with Norton. I'm guaranteed to impress the client when I remove it and everything gets faster and less annoying.

Personally I never trust a windows install after it has been infected. Better to wipe the machine then worry about a relapse.
 
I wonder why people don't get on punkbuster as it runs continually on your system as well. At least by default and I do not know how to deactivate it.
 
punkbuster annoys the beans out of linux users.... Ill get on it. It thinks we are a bunch of hackers (which sadly, I would say a good percentage are) and kicks us from good servers when we try to play cod 4. Lol.
 
I've played a few games with SecuROM with no problems what so ever. Mass Effect, Far Cry 2, Crysis, etc. o.o
 
oh yes it is...all you have to do is use something like steam so you don't have those rootkits being installed.
 
There's still titles that have it on them on Steam. Mainly EA titles, but still.
