John 14:21
New American Standard Bible (NASB)
21 He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.
Love is a common word and people really have different definitions on it. In John 14:21, Jesus says how we can love him. Clearly saying he who knows Jesus' teaching and obeys them is showing love to him. Let us not forget to read, know and study the Bible and obey it.
That was supposed to be the only thing I plan to say about the verse. But questions pops into my mind. Isn't it that God loves us even when we are unbelievers? How come it looks like we are the one doing the effort in reaching God? The first answer that comes to my mind is that unbelievers do not know the love of God. We only know it because someone share to us. Recent believers knows a taste of God's love. And as we read the Bible, we much understand what God's love and how much better it is than we expected when we first believed. Yes God love us from the start. He is the one that move us so that we might believe. And by holding on to His commandments, that is when we really experience the love that was there from the start.
