my friend told me this.. no tricks.. a pure riddle for you.. from lebanon...

You have 12 eggs.. all the same weight except for one. You dont know that it is heavier or lighter but you know its weight differs by a very small ammount.

You have a set of scales. you can use the scales 3 times. In that you have to find the odd egg and tell me whether it is heavier or lighter.

There IS a solution to this but if you get it i will be impressed. Email me.. i will post solution in a few days.
 
Ok ok... first try the easier version... You know the odd egg is HEAVIER.. (i got this one)... you have 3 tries on the scales to find the egg. You can put whatever eggs you like on the scales....
 
hehe ok im gonna tell you the solution.. amaze your friends with this... and for the hard one its gonna take a while....


Easy solution...

Split the eggs into three groups of 4.
Weigh 2 groups together.. If they are equal on the scales then you know the egg is in the 3rd group. If not then the egg is in the group that goes down on the scale.

DDDD

4 down eggs.
Weigh 2v2 on the scales.. the egg is in the one the goes down.

weigh 1v1 egg.. you have your heavy egg.
 
Ok now the tough one.. my friend took 5 years to figure this out....

Seperate the eggs into 4 groups

AAAA BBBB CCCC

Weigh A vs B.

Scenario 1: They stay the same. You know the egg is in C

xxxx xxxx CCCC

now you know all x's are the same weight. Now weigh them like this

xCC vs xxC

Now 3 things can happen.
1. They stay the same - solution - it is the unweighed C egg. Weigh the C egg against any egg and find if it is heavier or lighter.
2. xCC goes down. Now this means that the CC eggs are heavier OR the lone C egg is lighter. Weigh the 2 CC eggs. If they stay the same then it is the lone C egg which you know is lighter. Or if one goes down then that is the egg and it is definitely heavier.
3. xCC gies up. same as above but opposite weights.

Scenario 2: one goes down. You know the egg is not in C. Now relabel your eggs like this.. D for the ones that went down. U for the ones that went up. X for the old C's (this is because the group that went down cannot have the lighter egg in and vice versa). Now you have..

UUUU DDDD XXXX

Now measure on your second go like this....

left right not weighed
UDD UDD UU

If they stay the same then it is two other U eggs. Measure the UU eggs. The U goes up its that egg and its lighter.

If UDD left goes down. Then its either the two left D eggs or the one right U egg. Measure the two DD eggs. Same means its the U egg. Different gives you the heavier egg.

If UDD left goes up then its either the left U egg or the right DD eggs. Do the same as above.

There you have it... sp4nk3d

Here's another one:

How can you get a fully grown apple inside of a bottle? The bottle has to be a normal glass bottle which has no breaks, the entrance of which is clearly too small for the apple to pass through. The apple must end up in perfect condition. How?

I read in a book a similar one about a pear. You just put a bottle on the branch of an apple tree where the sapling is and wait for the apple to grow inside the bottle...

Correctus! I've read it somewhere before and thought came back to me. People use this technique to create weird-shaped fruits, also.
