Blizzard is currently working on the retribution tree from paladin class, to make it more viable dps wise in raid:

Hello again, I just wanted to let you know that the developers have taken part of your suggestions, and are looking into improving the retribution paladin spec. You can probably expect something along the line of more sustained DPS in a raid and more raid utility, but we are not ready to reveal any details. This is still work in progress, so please be patient.

Sometimes I just don't know what Blizz is trying to do. The paladin ret tree has swung back and forth from being mediocre dps to over-powered dps. I tried going full ret since 2.0 twice now and I can do nearly the same dps with my 45prot/16ret build as with a 61pt ret build.

With a 2h weapon and reckoning in the prot tree you can get 1-2 extra attacks, and if they crit and also proc seal of command and those also crit, I can sometimes do 3-4k instant damage...it's just not consistant enough - random proc combat system ftl
