Which do you think would be the best option. Noting the intruders that come in as us. Also noting the people who want to pretend to be in ToJ. Bear in mind that reserving the toj tag in full would require a volunteer to manage peoples wonids and assign their tags when they join toj. Let me know your thoughts

i think it's too much of a hassle to reserve names. everytime we get a new member then the file on the server that holds the wonid's would have to be updated.

and ToJers at a friends house or in internet cafe couldnt use their proper name.

i know there is sometimes a problem with imposters, but kick/ban is much easier then reserved tags.

~my 2 cents

Is your WONID managed by your IP address? Like, does my WONID change when I'm here in NC and when I'm at school in NY?

if they do it by cd-key then just keep it in your wallet and change it whenever you go to a friend's house or net cafe...there's a nice little half-life cd-key manager floating out on the internet

the vote to reserve is gunna pass because all the people who wont have to do all the admin stuff to put it into place and maintain it.

its really up to Elite if he wants to be updating server files daily.

Plus, im pretty sure it only checks tags on connection, so a name changed during a game wouldnt be checked. ive tried pluggins that claimed to check all the time, but they simply dont work.

I dont know if this is possible, but give ALL ToJers an admin status with little or no command rights. This way we could log on with a password.

This most likely too farfetched to work though and its another hassle, hassle, hassle.

That would be kind of pointless given the fact that were on a highlander Admin system.

I think that reserving the admin tags could be a smart move. Though I don't like non-member people using any members names, it could cause a lot of problems if an admin name is used and the server really needs and admin.

Does the person who updates the things need to have ftp access to the server?

If so this could cause problems. I will research it today.

after more time and consideration of the people who would have to do this i would like to change my vote to Admin only reserve tags. although Fox is onto a good idea maybe, just have to take out highlander and the admins have respect and stuff i dont know i am just going to babble some now

Indeed, I could not understand your "babble".

When I see a name with a ToJ tag that I do not know, I'll first ask who the player is (nickname, or real name). With no satisfactory response, I'll get the wonID. If the nick is not in the roster, I'll ask for Elite and other admins' opinion, and possibly ban the player. That will teach irresponsible players to have more respect for the ToJ tag.

I see no problem with ppl Impersonating ToJ, as long as they are not impersonating an admin (which is what I voted for) Remember we hold ToJ members to a higher standard and punish them faster and harder. So if someone wants to wear the tag and be punished that way, more power to them.

Rizz, yes, the person running that would need FTP access, (or that dir would have to be writeable, and we could use a php/asp style script to update it)

Para--actually no. If everyone had an admin account with no abilities, they can also be stacked underneath all admin's with abilities (it's set up as an n-tier system, with those with rcon at top, then multiple levels underneath) the only problem with this, is it's a pain to insert an admin in adminmod and b you'd still need ftp access or the script thing.

I think then that the idea of reserving the toj tag is too much work. we will still look into reserving the admin names though.

I've already implemented the admins to have reserved tags awhile ago after that big fiasco where "I" cursed everyone out and stuff...lol - of course that wasn't really me.
