Redirect

I am currently using a free public redirect for our UT3 server, It is proving to be a real pain in the shorts. Can anyone suggest an inexpensive way to get a redirect set up, with ftp access, that will support about 1gb worth of custom map & other server files?

dyndns is pretty easy to use..then you just need to open up ftp and other accesses int he firewall..that's how i have run GFC's servers for years you just put the port number at the end of the url:

http://hescominsoon.dyndns.org:<port> It's quite easy..if it's hard either your redirect service is complicated or maybe your network setup is a bit off. Detail your setup and I an others will be happy to help..if you want less "chatter" pm me and we can work it out..<G>

Using the redirect isn't the pain, its sharing it. Getting corrupt files in there and having to wait for days to get them removed if the admins will even remove them. I want my own FTP that I can have full control over what's on it. I am looking for an inexpensive place to host about 1gb of files for fast download by clients that join the server. The server comes with a free 100mb website, that will only hold 3 or 4 custom maps though.

do you have any idea what you monthly bandwidth requirements are? I may have a free solution for FTP that you can maintain yourself but bandwidth limitations may be a problem.

Cap'n: If you find what you're looking for, let me know. Maybe the TF2 chapter could chip in on the cost (if it ends up costing anything) and split the space with you.

The good news is that redirects won't be an issue when we finally raise the funds for our own dedicated server hardware; we can just throw a web server process up and upload the files directly.

I have a small hosting account where I believe I can setup a FTP only account (trying to do it now) but it would have about a 5GB storage and 5GB monthly bandwidth limit... does that sound like it would work?

edit: I got it setup and working, PM'd Tek with the IP addy and usernames/passwords

I am so excited to be able to help!!! YAY!

The size is great, the bandwidth might be close if our servers were real busy. It would allow 200 people to download a 25mb file per month. It should be sufficient. Is it something we could kick money toward for extra bandwidth in the off chance we need more?

I checked the web stats on the sites I am hosting now and I think it is safe to bump the FTP up to 10 GB of traffic. any problems check my user profile and hit me up on ICQ or MSN... ;)

I'd like to avoid setting up yet another hosting account while trying to raise funds for our dedicated server, so a free solution would be best. I recognize that that's unlikely, though.

I would suggest hosting the maps on CGA web space, but with me serving as President of both CGA and ToJ, there's a definite conflict of interest. As President of CGA, I wouldn't want to give preference to one affiliate over another.

that is an idea..there's plenty of room and unlimited transfer on the cga server..:)

I like that idea too :D

You could offer redirect as a service to the affiliates (including us) for a small fee. You can use it to raise money for CGA.

I would willingly pay a few dollars a month to rent a little redirect space for the UT3 server. I would rather keep it in the CGA system than give it to someone else.

There's not 250 gigs of space though..so you might be limited to 2-5 gigs depending on what's available. YOu will ahve to tlak to thom and tek about what kind of space availability there is.
