Red5 - What are they up to?

I have a couple beta invites to Firefall if anybody is interested.
Yes. Definitely.

Anything that's a FPS and not a YAMS (Yet Another Military Shooter; credit for the acronym goes to DannyMeister) earns at least a passing glance from me.

Thank you!!! Why does no one realize this? Military shooters got old in the 90's, and YET THEY KEEP MAKING THEM EVERY YEAR. Grrrr, I really really dislike EA. And Infinity Ward/Treyarch is not doing much better with the CoD series.

Ok, rant over. I kind of wish they would bring back some of the espionage games, like Splinter Cell and such, but it seems like they're focusing too much on the wrong things (i.e. fancy graphics and not gameplay and story).

Oh, and I love puzzle/adventure games, but I don't know too many of those for the PC. Gemini Rue was fun.

:) :)

What about zombie shooters? I got tired of those with L4D came out the first day.

YAZS?

Left 4 Dead's "hook" was its coop gameplay. L4D brought coop back into the spotlight, seemingly overnight, by proving to developers and publishers there is money to be made on coop games. Now coop is a common feature in many new games.

That being said, I am really tired of seeing zombie games everywhere I turn. And vampires. Seriously. Enough with the vampires and zombies.

Because they're easy money. There may be a vocal group that has turned their back on annual franchises (CoD, Madden, Assassin's Creed) due to burnout, but there are enough that buy the games at $60 launch prices PLUS day-one DLC to fund the practices that perpetuate the cycle.

I don't know if anyone likes EA. I think even people who purchase EA games just tolerate them because they think some of their games are fun.

I guess that's one reason I tend to favor indies and companies like Double Fine: I spend money for a game I like and feel good supporting the company that made the game. (In fact, I liked what Final Form Games had to say for themselves in the ending credits of Jamestown so much that I bought the reasonably-priced DLC for the game the day after it released AND another copy of the game when it went on sale a few months later.) It's the difference between buying a Popcap game before EA acquired the company and after. And it's one reason why the Humble Indie Bundles are so successful.

Check Steam. The adventure genre has enjoyed a somewhat quiet renaissance thanks largely to Telltale and Double Fine. And there have been several very fun puzzle games released in recent years, like Chime, Droplitz, and Splice.

I may or may not have installed the Firefall beta last night, depending largely on whether there's a NDA or not. (If there is, I'll need to prune this thread a bit.)

There is not. You can talk about it, post pictures and videos, and even livestream if you want.
